ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Adam Sadowsky - Creative entrepreneur
As the president of Syyn Labs, Adam Sadowsky merges art and technology to create interactive projects big and small.

Why you should listen

Adam Sadowsky is the president of Syyn Labs -- a collective of talented people that bring aesthetics and engineering together to create really nifty interactive art. Syyn Labs is responsible for a potpourri of interesting gizmos, from augmented reality namebadges to sound-reactive fire sculpture, but are best known for the huge Rube Goldberg machine created for OK Go's music video "This Too Shall Pass" that instantly went viral via YouTube.

In addition to engineering interactive art, Sadowsky serves as COO for the popular Mindshare LA events, where people across disciplines come together every month to share ideas (thought up while the founders were at TED2005).  He is also the co-founder and vice president of the IBD Foundation, providing support to people with Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis, having been diagnosed with the latter in 1984. Sadowsky has also worked in software, product design, video games, genetics research, online auctions and even had quite a successful acting stint, sharing the TV screen with both Jason Bateman and Matthew Perry.

Un mums tas likās ļoti interesanti,

And we sortkārtot of startedsāka talkingrunājam about what it is that they wanted.
24

Un mēs sākām pārrunāt, kas tad ir tas, ko viņi vēlējās.
01:17
And they explainedpaskaidrots that they wanted

Mēs bijām priecīgi satraukti,
01:36
and we startedsāka talkingrunājam about

kā tā tieši izskatīsies.
01:40
And we camenāca up with some parametersparametri, because,
35
85000
2000
Un mēs nonācām pie dažiem parametriem --
01:42
you know, buildingēka a RubeRude GoldbergGoldberg machinemašīna
36
87000
2000
jūs ziniet, Rūba Goldberga mašīnas būvei

3000
ir ierobežojumi,
01:47
but it alsoarī is prettyskaista wideplašs openatvērts.
38

3000
bet ir arī plašas iespējas.
01:50
And we wanted to make sure that we did something
39
95000
2000
Un mēs vēlējāmies pārliecināties, ka mēs daram kaut ko,
01:52
that would work for a musicmūzika videovideo.
40
97000
3000
kas derētu mūzikas video.
01:55
So we camenāca up with a listsarakstu of requirementsprasības,
41

3000
Tad mēs nonācām pie nepieciešamību saraksta,
01:58
the "10 commandmentsbaušļi,"

10 baušļi,
02:00
and they were, in orderkārtībā of ascendingaugošā secībā difficultygrūtības:
43
105000

un tie bija sakārtoti pēc pieaugošas sarežģītības pakāpes:
02:03
The first is "No magicmaģija."
44

02:12
then we couldn'tnevarēja use it in the videovideo.
48
117000
2000
tad mēs to nevarējām lietot video.
02:14
They wanted bandjosla integrationintegrācija,
49
119000
2000
Viņi vēlējās grupas iesaistīšanos,
02:16
that is, the machinemašīna actingdarbojas uponpēc the bandjosla membersbiedri,
50
121000
3000
tas ir, mašīna darbotos pār grupas dalībniekiem,

51
124000

precīzi tā un ne otrādi
02:21
They wanted the machinemašīna actionrīcība to followsekojiet the songdziesma feelingsajūta.
52
126000
3000
Viņi vēlējās, lai dziesmas sajūtu varētu manīt mašīnas darbībās.
02:24
So as the songdziesma pickscērtes up emotionemocijas,
53
129000
2000
Dziesmai augot emocionāli,
02:26
so should the machinemašīna

55
133000
2000
bija jākļūst izteiksmīgākiem.
02:30
They wanted us to make use of the spacetelpa.
56
135000
2000
Viņi vēlējās, lai mēs izmantojam telpu lietderīgi.
02:32
So we have this 10,000-square-foot-kvadrātpēda warehousenoliktava we were usingizmantojot,
57
137000
3000
Mums bija 10 tūkstoš kvadrātpēdu liela noliktava, ko mēs izmantojām,

Tājā iekļauta bija arī ārējā iekraušanas platforma.
02:39
We used all of that, includingtostarp a giantmilzis holecaurums in the floorgrīda
60
144000
3000
Mēs izmantojām to visu, arī milzu caurumu grīdā,

that we actuallyfaktiski descendednolaidās the camerakamera and cameramankinooperators throughcauri.

02:45
They wanted it messynetīrs, and we were happylaimīgs to obligeuzliek par pienākumu.
62
150000
3000
Viņi vēlējās to neizkoptu, un mēs bijām priecīgi tam paklausīt.
02:48
The machinemašīna itselfpati par sevi would startsākt the musicmūzika.
63
153000
2000
Mašīna pati arī iesāktu mūziku.
02:50
So the machinemašīna would get startedsāka,
64

2000
Mašīna iedarbotos,
02:52
it would travelceļot some distanceattālums,

And speakingrunājot of synchronizationsinhronizācija,
70

Runājot par sinhronizāciju,
03:05
they wanted it to syncsinhronizēt to the rhythmritms
71

viņi vēlējās, lai mašīna darbotos sinhroni ritmam

03:14
They wanted it to endbeigas preciselyprecīzi on time.
74
179000
3000
Viņi vēlējās, lai tā apstājās precīzi laikā.
03:17
Okay, so now the startsākt to finishpabeigt timinglaiks has to be perfectideāls.
75
182000
3000
Labi, laikam jābūt saplānotam perfekti no sākuma līdz beigām.
03:20
And they wanted the musicmūzika to droppiliens out
