There were no clouds in the sky.

Não havia nuvens no céu.

01:15
And so three days later, driving very fast,
19
63897
6211
Então, três dias depois, dirigindo muito rápido,
01:22
I found myself stalking a single type of giant cloud called the super cell,
20
70108
7260
achei-me perseguindo um único tipo de nuvem gigante, chamada super-célula,
01:29
capable of producing grapefruit-size hail
21
77368
4451
capaz de produzir granizo do tamanho de laranjas

These clouds can grow so big, up to 50 miles wide

Essas nuvens podem ficar tão grandes, com até 80 km de largura
01:47
and reach up to 65,000 feet into the atmosphere.
25

They can grow so big, blocking all daylight,

01:58
Storm chasing is a very tactile experience.
28
106826
2902
Perseguir tempestades é uma experiência muito palpável.
02:01
There's a warm, moist wind blowing at your back
29
109728

Há um vento quente, úmido soprando em suas costas
02:05
and the smell of the earth, the wheat, the grass, the charged particles.
30
113995
6702
e o cheiro da terra, do trigo, da grama, as partículas carregadas.
02:12
And then there are the colors in the clouds
31
120697
3397
Então acontecem as cores nas nuvens
02:16
of hail forming, the greens and the turquoise blues.
32

02:31
What really excites me about these storms
38
139886
3176
O que realmente me anima nessas tempestades
02:35
is their movement, the way they swirl and spin and undulate,
39
143062
4217
é o movimento delas, a maneira como formam espirais, o rodopio e a ondulação,
02:39
with their lava lamp-like mammatus clouds.
40
147279
4018
nuvens com o formato tubular.
02:43
They become lovely monsters.
41
151297

Elas se tornam monstros adoráveis.
02:46
When I'm photographing them,
42
154029

Quando estou tirando fotos delas,
02:48
I cannot help but remember my grandfather's lesson.
43
156562
3733
não consigo deixar de lembrar a lição de meu avô.
02:52
As I stand under them,
44
160295

Enquanto fico debaixo delas,
02:54
I see not just a cloud,
45
162287
2207
não vejo somente uma nuvem,
02:56
but understand that what I have the privilege to witness
46
164494
2883
mas entendo que tenho o privilégio de testemunhar
02:59
is the same forces, the same process in a small-scale version
47
167377

as mesmas forças, o mesmo processo, numa escala menor,
03:03
that helped to create our galaxy, our solar system, our sun
