What I'd like to talk about today今天
28
61000
2000
01:18
is understanding理解 these exponential指数 technologies技术.
29
63000
2000
01:20
We often经常 think linearly线性.
30
65000
2000
01:22
But if you think about it, if you have a lily百合 pad
31
67000
2000
01:24
and it just divided分为 every一切 single day --
32
69000
2000
01:26
two, four, eight, 16 --
33
71000
2000
2,4,8,16 --
01:28
in 15 days you have 32,000.
34
73000
2000
01:30
What do you think you have in a month? We're at a billion
35
75000
3000
01:33
So if we start开始 to think exponentially成倍,
36
78000
2000
01:35
we can see how this is starting开始 to affect影响 all the technologies技术 around us.
37
80000
3000
01:38
And many许多 of these technologies技术 -- speaking请讲 as a physician医师 and innovator创新 --

01:41
we can really start开始 to leverage杠杆作用

02:00
And one of the major重大的 things we can do we've我们已经 talked a bit about here today今天
48
105000
2000
02:02
is moving移动 the curve曲线 to the left.
49
107000
2000
02:04
We spend most of our money on the last 20 percent百分 of life.

02:10
to move移动 the curve曲线 to the left and improve提高 our health健康,
53
115000
2000
02:12
leveraging借力 technology技术 as well?
54
117000
2000
02:14
Now my favorite喜爱 technology技术, example of exponential指数 technology技术,
55
119000
3000
02:17
we all have in our pocket口袋.

So even my stethoscope听筒 is now digital数字.
133
306000
2000
05:23
And of course课程, there's an app应用 for that.
134
308000
2000
05:25
We're moving移动, obviously明显, to the era时代 of the tricorder的tricorder.
135
310000
3000
05:28
So the handheld手持 ultrasound超声
136
313000
2000
05:30
is basically基本上 surpassing超越 and supplanting排挤 the stethoscope听筒.
137
315000
3000
05:33
These are now at a price价钱 point
138
318000
2000
05:35
of -- what used to be 100,000 euros欧元 or a couple一对 of hundred-thousand成百上千的 dollars美元 --
139
320000
2000
05:37
for about 5,000 dollars美元, I can have the power功率
140
322000
2000
05:39
of a very powerful强大 diagnostic诊断 device设备 in my hand.
141
324000
3000
05:42
And merging合并 this now with the advent来临 of electronic电子 medical records记录 --
142
327000
3000
05:45
in the United联合的 States状态, we're still less than 20 percent百分 electronic电子.
143
330000
3000
05:48
Here in the Netherlands荷兰, I think it's more than 80 percent百分.
144
333000
2000
05:50
But now that we're switching交换 to merging合并 medical data数据,
145
335000
2000
05:54
we can crowd人群 source资源 that information信息,
147
339000
2000
05:56
and now as a physician医师, I can access访问 my patients'耐心' data数据 from wherever哪里 I am
148
341000
3000
05:59
just through通过 my mobile移动 device设备.
149
344000
2000
06:01
And now, of course课程, we're in the era时代 of the iPadiPad的, even the iPadiPad的 2.
150
346000
3000
06:04
And just last month the first FDA-approvedFDA批准 application应用
151
349000
3000
06:07
was approved批准 to allow允许 radiologists放射科医生
152
352000
2000
06:09
to do actual实际 reading on these sorts排序 of devices设备.
153
354000
2000
06:11
So certainly当然, the physicians医师 of today今天, including包含 myself,
154
356000
3000
06:14
are completely全然 reliable可靠 on these devices设备.
155
359000
2000
06:16
And as you saw just about a month ago,
156
361000
2000
06:18
Watson沃森 from IBMIBM beat击败 the two champions冠军 in "Jeopardy危险."
157
363000
2000
06:20
So I want you to imagine想像 when in a couple一对 of years年份,
158
365000
2000
06:22
when we've我们已经 started开始 to apply应用 this cloud-based基于云 information信息,
159
367000
3000
06:25
when we really have the A.I. physician医师 and leverage杠杆作用 our brains大脑 to connectivity连接
160
370000
3000
06:28
to make decisions决定 and diagnostics诊断
161
373000
2000
06:30
at a level水平 never doneDONE.
162
375000
2000
06:32
Already已经 today今天, you don't need to go to your physician医师 in many许多 cases.
163
377000
3000
06:35
Only for about 20 percent百分 of actual实际 visits访问 do you have to lay铺设 hands on the patient患者.
164
380000
3000
06:38
We're now in the era时代 of virtual虚拟 visits访问 --
165
383000
2000
06:40
from sort分类 of the Skype-typeSkype的型 visits访问 you can do with American美国 Well,
166
385000
3000
06:43
to Cisco思科 that's developed发达 a very complex复杂 health健康 presence存在 system系统.
167
388000
3000
06:46
The ability能力 to interact相互作用 with your health健康 care关心 provider提供商 is different不同.
168
391000
3000
06:49
And these are being存在 augmented增强 even by our devices设备 again today今天.
169
394000
3000
06:52
Here my friend朋友 Jessica杰西卡 sent发送 me a picture图片 of her head laceration划破
170
397000
2000
06:54
so I can save保存 her a trip to the emergency room房间 -- I can do some diagnostics诊断 that way.
171
399000
3000
06:57
Or might威力 we be able能够 to leverage杠杆作用 today's今天的 gaming赌博 technology技术,
172
402000
2000
06:59
like the Microsoft微软 KinectKinect的,
173
404000
2000
Kinect,
07:01
and hack that to enable启用 diagnostics诊断, for example,
174
406000
2000
07:03
in diagnosing诊断 stroke行程,
175
408000
2000
07:05
using运用 simple简单 motion运动 detection发现, using运用 hundred-dollar一百美元 devices设备.
176
410000
3000
07:08
We can actually其实 now visit访问 our patients耐心 robotically机器人 --
177
413000
3000
07:11
this is the RPRP7; if I'm a hematologist血液学学者,
178
416000
2000
07:13
visit访问 another另一个 clinic诊所, visit访问 a hospital醫院.
179
418000
3000
07:16
These will be augmented增强 by a whole整个 suite套房 of tools工具 actually其实 in the home now.
180
421000
3000
07:19
So imagine想像 we already已经 have wireless无线 scales.
181
424000
2000
07:21
You can step on the scale规模.
182
426000
2000
07:23
You can Tweet鸣叫 your weight重量 to your friends朋友, and they can keep you in line线.
183
428000
2000
07:25
We have wireless无线 blood血液 pressure压力 cuffs袖口.
184
430000
2000
07:27
A whole整个 gamut色域 of these technologies技术 are being存在 put together一起.
185
432000
2000
07:29
So instead代替 of wearing穿着 these kludgy缺憾 devices设备, we can put on a simple简单 patch补丁.
186
434000
3000
07:32
This was developed发达 by colleagues同事 at Stanford斯坦福, called the iRhythmiRhythm --
187
437000
3000
07:35
completely全然 supplants取代了 the prior technology技术 at a much lower降低 price价钱 point
188
440000
3000
07:38
with much more effectivity有效性.
189
443000
2000
07:40
Now we're also in the era时代, today今天, of quantified量化 self.
190
445000
2000
07:42
Consumers消费者 now can buy购买 basically基本上 hundred-dollar一百美元 devices设备,
191
447000
2000
07:44
like this little FitBitFitBit.
192
449000
2000
07:46
I can measure测量 my steps脚步, my caloric outtake通气管.
193
451000
2000
07:48
I can get insight眼光 into that on a daily日常 basis基础.
194
453000
2000
07:50
I can share分享 that with my friends朋友, with my physician医师.
195
455000
2000
07:52
There's watches手表 coming未来 out that will measure测量 your heart rate, the ZeoZEO sleep睡觉 monitors显示器,
196
457000
3000
07:55
a whole整个 suite套房 of tools工具 that can enable启用 you to leverage杠杆作用
197
460000
2000
07:57
and have insight眼光 into your own拥有 health健康.
198
462000
2000
07:59
And as we start开始 to integrate整合 this information信息,
199
464000
2000
08:01
we're going to know better what to do with it and how better to have insight眼光
200
466000
3000
08:04
into our own拥有 pathologies病理, health健康 and wellness健康.
201
469000
2000
08:06
There's even mirrors镜子 today今天 that can pick up your pulse脉冲 rate.
202
471000
3000
08:09
And I would argue争论, in the future未来, we'll have wearable穿戴式 devices设备 in our clothes衣服,
203
474000
3000
08:14
And just like we have the OnStar安吉星 system系统 in cars汽车,
205
479000
2000
08:16
your red light might威力 go on -- it won't惯于 say "check engine发动机" though虽然.
206
481000
2000
08:18
It's going to be "check your body身体" light,
207
483000
2000
08:20
and go in and get it taken采取 care关心 of.
208
485000
2000
08:22
Probably大概 in a few少数 years年份, you'll你会 check into your mirror镜子
209
487000
2000
08:24
and it's going to be diagnosing诊断 you.
210
489000
2000
08:26
(Laughter
211
491000
2000
08:28
For those of you with kiddoskiddos at home,
212
493000
2000
08:30
how would you like to have the wireless无线 diaper尿布 that supports支持 your ...
213
495000
3000
08:33
too much information信息, I think, than you might威力 need.
214
498000
2000
08:35
But it's going to be here.
215
500000
2000
08:37
Now we've我们已经 heard听说 a lot today今天 about new technology技术 and connection连接.
216
502000
3000
08:40
And I think some of these technologies技术
217
505000
2000
08:42
will enable启用 us to be more connected连接的 with our patients耐心,
218
507000
2000
08:44
and take more time
219
509000
2000
08:46
and actually其实 do the important重要 human人的 touch触摸 elements分子 of medicine医学,
220
511000
2000
08:48
as augmented增强 by these sorts排序 of technologies技术.
221
513000
2000
08:50
Now we've我们已经 talked about augmenting增广 the patient患者, to some degree.
222
515000
2000
08:52
How about augmenting增广 the physician医师?
223
517000
2000
08:54
We're now in the era时代 of super-enabling超级启用 the surgeon外科医生
224
519000
2000
08:56
who can now go inside the body身体
225
521000
2000
08:58
and do things with robotic机器人 surgery手术, which哪一个 is here today今天,
226
523000
2000
09:00
at a level水平 that was not really possible可能
227
525000
2000
09:02
even five years年份 ago.
228
527000
2000
09:04
Now this is being存在 augmented增强 with further进一步 layers of technology技术
229
529000
2000
09:06
like augmented增强 reality现实.
230
531000
2000
09:08
So the surgeon外科医生 can see inside the patient患者, through通过 their lens镜片,
231
533000
3000
09:11
where the tumor is, where the blood血液 vessels船只 are.
232
536000
2000
09:13
This can be integrated集成 with decisions决定 support支持.
233
538000
2000
09:15
A surgeon外科医生 in New York纽约 can be helping帮助 a surgeon外科医生 in Amsterdam阿姆斯特丹, for example.
234
540000
3000
09:18
And we're entering进入 an era时代
235
543000
2000
09:20
of really, truly scarless疤痕 surgery手术 called NOTES笔记,
236
545000
2000
09:22
where the robotic机器人 endoscope内窥镜 can come out the stomach
237
547000
2000
09:24
and pull out that gallbladder胆囊
238
549000
2000
09:26
all in a scarless疤痕 way and robotically机器人.
239
551000
2000
09:28
And this is called NOTES笔记, and this is coming未来 --
240
553000
2000
09:32
as mediated by robotic机器人 surgery手术.
242
557000
2000
09:34
Now how about controlling控制 other elements分子?
243
559000
2000
09:36
For those who have disabilities残疾人 -- the paraplegic截瘫 --
244
561000
2000
09:38
there's the era时代 of brain-computer脑机 interface接口, or BCIBCI,
245
563000
3000
09:41
where chips芯片 have been put on the motor发动机 cortex皮质

09:45
and they can control控制 a curser光标 or a wheelchair轮椅 or, eventually终于, a robotic机器人 arm.
248
570000
4000
09:49
And these devices设备 are getting得到 smaller
249
574000
2000
09:51
and going into more and more of these patients耐心.
250
576000
2000
09:53
Still in clinical临床 trials试验, but imagine想像 when we can connect these,
251
578000
2000
09:55
for example, to the amazing惊人 bionic仿生 limb,
252
580000
2000
09:57
such这样 as the DEKADEKA Arm built内置 by Dean院长 Kamen假面 and colleagues同事,
253
582000

10:07
than they've他们已经 had in the past过去.
257
592000
2000
10:09
So we're really entering进入 the era时代 of wearable穿戴式 robotics机器人 actually其实.
258
594000
3000
10:12
If you haven't没有 lost丢失 a limb -- you've had a stroke行程, for example --
259
597000
2000
10:14
you can wear穿 these augmented增强 limbs四肢.
260
599000
2000
10:16
Or if you're a paraplegic截瘫 -- like I've visited参观 the folks乡亲 at Berkley伯克利 Bionics仿生学 --
261
601000
3000
10:19
they've他们已经 developed发达 eLEGSeLEGS.
262
604000
2000
10:21
I took this video视频 last week. Here's这里的 a paraplegic截瘫 patient患者 actually其实 walking步行
263
606000
3000
10:24
by strapping魁梧的 on these exoskeletons外骨骼.
264
609000
2000
10:28
And now this is the early era时代 of wearable穿戴式 robotics机器人.
266
613000
2000
10:30
And I think by leveraging借力 these sorts排序 of technologies技术,
267
615000
2000
10:32
we're going to change更改 the definition定义 of disability失能
268
617000
2000
10:34
to in some cases be superabilitysuperability, or super-enabling超级启用.

17:12
And we're integrating整合 this now with a whole整个 era时代 of cellular细胞的 engineering工程,
441
1017000
2000
17:14
and integrating整合 exponential指数 technologies技术

That's where things are going to head -- still very early days.
446
1028000
2000
17:25
But I think, as integration积分 of exponential指数 technologies技术,

17:32
and how to impact碰撞 health健康 and medicine医学,
450
1037000

17:34
we're entering进入 an era时代 of miniaturization微型化,

17:38
And I think by pulling these things together一起,
453
1043000
2000
17:40
if we can start开始 to think about how to understand理解 and leverage杠杆作用 these,
454
1045000
2000
17:42
we're going to empower授权 the patient患者,
455
1047000
2000
17:46
and begin开始 to cure治愈 the well before they get sick生病.
457
1051000
3000
17:49
Because I know as a doctor医生, if someone有人 comes to me with Stage阶段 I disease疾病,
458
1054000
3000
17:52
I'm thrilled高兴 -- we can often经常 cure治愈 them.
459
1057000
2000
17:54
But often经常 it's too late晚了 and it's Stage阶段 IIIIII or IVIV cancer癌症, for example.
460
1059000
3000
17:57
So by leveraging借力 these technologies技术 together一起,
461
1062000
2000
17:59
I think we'll enter输入 a new era时代
462
1064000
2000
18:01
that I like to call Stage阶段 0 medicine医学.
463
1066000
2000
18:03
And as a cancer癌症 doctor医生, I'm looking forward前锋 to being存在 out of a job工作.
464
1068000
3000
18:06
Thanks谢谢 very much.
465
1071000
2000
