07:12
a robotrobot replacesostituire the humanumano to go to the partypartito,
137
416857
3678
07:16
we'dsaremmo have a humanumano replacesostituire the robotrobot.
138
420535
2843
07:19
We calledchiamato it the Tele-ActorTele-attore.
139
423378
2600
Lo chiamammo il Tele-Attore.
07:21
We got a humanumano,
140
425978
2032
Scegliemmo una persona

and then a backpackzaino with wirelesssenza fili InternetInternet connectionconnessione,
144

07:36
and the ideaidea was that she could go into a remotea distanza and
145
440469
3359
07:39
interestinginteressante environmentambiente, and then over the InternetInternet,
146
443828
3815
e lontano e poi, tramite Internet,
07:43
people could experienceEsperienza what she was experiencingsperimentare,
147
447643
3151
le persone potessero sperimentare la stessa cosa,
07:46
so they could see what she was seeingvedendo,
148
450794
2937
07:49
but then, more importantlyimportante, they could participatepartecipare
149
453731

e soprattutto potessero partecipare
07:52
by interactinginteragendo with eachogni other
150

2948
interagendo gli uni con gli altri,
07:55
and comingvenuta up with ideasidee about what she should do nextIl prossimo
151
459986
3705
proponendo idee su come avrebbe dovuto comportarsi
07:59
and where she should go,
152
463691
2216
e dove sarebbe dovuta andare,
08:01
and then conveyingtrasporto those to the Tele-ActorTele-attore.
153
465907
3162
per poi trasmettere queste idee al Tele-Attore.
08:04
So we got a chanceopportunità to take the Tele-ActorTele-attore
154
469069
2445
08:07
to the WebbyWebby AwardsPremi in SanSan FranciscoFrancisco,
155
471514
3615
ai Webby Awards a San Francisco,
08:11
and that yearanno, SamSam DonaldsonDonaldson was the hostospite.
156
475129
4111
08:15
Just before the curtaintenda wentandato up, I had about 30 secondssecondi
157
479240
3642
08:18
to explainspiegare to MrSignor. DonaldsonDonaldson what we were gonna do,
158
482882
4458
spiegai a Donaldson cosa avremmo fatto
08:23
and I said, "The Tele-ActorTele-attore
159
487340
1864
e gli dissi: "Il Tele-Attore
08:25
is going to be joiningaccoppiamento you on stagepalcoscenico,
160
489204
2456
si unirà a lei sul palco,
08:27
and this is a newnuovo experimentalsperimentale projectprogetto,
161
491660
2198
è un nuovo progetto sperimentale:
08:29
and people are watchingGuardando her on theirloro screensschermi,
162
493858
2625
le persone lo seguono dai loro schermi,
08:32
and she's got -- there's camerasmacchine fotografiche involvedcoinvolti and there's
163
496483
2305
il Tele-Attore ha delle telecamere,
08:34
microphonesMicrofoni and she's got an earbudEarbud in her earorecchio,
164
498788
2911
dei microfoni e un auricolare nell'orecchio,
08:37
and people over the networkRete are givingdando her adviceconsigli
165
501699
1447
08:39
about what to do nextIl prossimo."
166
503146
1368
su come comportarsi".
08:40
And he said, "Wait a secondsecondo,
167
504514
3209
E lui disse "Aspetta un attimo,
08:43
that's what I do." (LaughterRisate)
168
507723
6375
ma questo è quello che faccio io!". (Risate)
08:49
So he lovedamato the conceptconcetto,
169
514098
1931
Gli piacque molto l'idea,
08:51
and when the Tele-ActorTele-attore walkedcamminava onstagesul palco,
170
516029
2340
e quando il Tele-Attore salì sul palco,
08:54
she walkedcamminava right up to him, and she gaveha dato him a biggrande kissbacio
171
518369
2821
08:57
right on the lipslabbra. (LaughterRisate)
172
521190
3106
sulle labbra. (Risate)
09:00
We were totallytotalmente surprisedsorpreso.
173
524296
1131
Noi eravamo davvero stupiti.
09:01
We had no ideaidea that would happenaccadere.
174
525427
2017
Non ce lo aspettavamo.
09:03
And he was great. He just gaveha dato her a biggrande hugabbraccio in returnritorno,
175
527444
2692
E lui fu grandioso. Per tutta risposta, l'abbracciò
09:06
and it workedlavorato out great.
176
530136
1769
e andò tutto benissimo.
09:07
But that night, as we were packingimballaggio up,
177
531905
2064
Quella sera, mentre mettevamo a posto,
09:09
I askedchiesto the Tele-ActorTele-attore, how did the Tele-DirectorsTele-amministrazione
178
533969
3608
09:13
decidedecidere that they would give a kissbacio to SamSam DonaldsonDonaldson?
179
537577
5558
09:19
And she said they hadn'tnon aveva.
180
543135
2212
09:21
She said, when she was just about to walkcamminare on stagepalcoscenico,
181
545347
2434
09:23
the Tele-DirectorsTele-amministrazione were still tryingprovare to agreeessere d'accordo on what to do,
182
547781
2312
09:25
and so she just walkedcamminava on stagepalcoscenico and did
183
550093
2407
allora lei salì sul palco e fece
09:28
what feltprovato mostmaggior parte naturalnaturale. (LaughterRisate)
184
552500
5522
quello che le sembrò più naturale. (Risate)
09:33
So, the successsuccesso of the Tele-ActorTele-attore that night
185
558022
3670
Quindi, il successo del Tele-Attore quella sera
09:37
was duedovuto to the factfatto that she was a wonderfulmeraviglioso actorattore.
186
561692
4373
09:41
She knewconosceva when to trustfiducia her instinctsistinti,
187
566065
2357
Sapeva quando fidarsi del proprio istinto.
09:44
and so that projectprogetto taughtinsegnato me anotherun altro lessonlezione about life,
188
568422
3864
09:48
whichquale is that, when in doubtdubbio, improviseimprovvisare. (LaughterRisate)
189
572286
6379
nel dubbio, improvvisa. (Risate)
09:54
Now, the thirdterzo projectprogetto grewè cresciuto out of
190
578665

Il terzo progetto è nato
09:57
my experienceEsperienza when my fatherpadre was in the hospitalospedale.
191
581745

dall'esperienza fatta quando mio padre era in ospedale.
10:02
He was undergoingin fase di a treatmenttrattamento,
192
586638
2240
Si stava sottoponendo ad una terapia,
10:04
chemotherapychemioterapia treatmentstrattamenti, and there's a relatedrelazionato treatmenttrattamento
193
588878
3633
10:08
calledchiamato brachytherapybrachiterapia, where tinyminuscolo, radioactiveradioattivo seedssemi
194
592511
5048
chiamata brachiterapia, in cui minuscoli semi radioattivi
10:13
are placedposto into the bodycorpo to treattrattare cancerouscancerose tumorstumori.
195
597559
4211
10:17
And the way it's donefatto, as you can see here,
196
601770
2097
E come potete vedere qui,
10:19
is that surgeonschirurghi insertinserire needlesaghi into the bodycorpo
197
603867
4391
i chirurghi inseriscono aghi nel corpo
10:24
to deliverconsegnare the seedssemi, and all this,
198
608258
2592
per posizionare i semi, e tutto ciò -
10:26
all these needlesaghi are insertedinserito in parallelparallelo,
199
610850
3433
tutti gli aghi vengono posizionati in parallelo,
10:30
so it's very commonComune that some of the needlesaghi
200
614283
2975
quindi capita spesso che alcuni aghi
10:33
penetratepenetrare sensitivesensibile organsorgani, and as a resultrisultato,
201
617258
4817
penetrino organi delicati, e di conseguenza,
10:37
the needlesaghi damagedanno these organsorgani, causecausa damagedanno
202
622075
5063
danneggino questi organi, causando danni
10:43
whichquale leadsconduce to traumatrauma and sidelato effectseffetti.
203
627138
3487
che portano a traumi ed effetti collaterali.
10:46
So my studentsstudenti and I wonderedchiesti, what if we could
204
630625
2500
Allora io e i miei studenti ci chiedemmo se
10:49
modifymodificare the systemsistema
205
633125
3485
potessimo modificare il sistema
10:52
so that the needlesaghi could come in at differentdiverso anglesangoli?
206
636610
3785
10:56
So we simulatedsimulata this, and we developedsviluppato some
207
640395
2777
Abbiamo fatto una simulazione, sviluppato
10:59
optimizationottimizzazione algorithmsalgoritmi and we simulatedsimulata this,
208
643172
2589
degli algoritmi di ottimizzazione e, in simulazione,
11:01
and we were ablecapace to showmostrare that we are ablecapace to avoidevitare
209
645761
2277
11:03
the delicatedelicato organsorgani and yetancora still achieveraggiungere the coveragecopertura
210
648038
3767
gli organi delicati pur raggiungendo la copertura
11:07
of the tumorstumori with the radiationradiazione.
211
651805
3508
dei tumori con le radiazioni.
11:11
So now, we're workinglavoro with doctorsmedici at UCSFUCSF
212
655313
3498
11:14
and engineersingegneri at JohnsJohns HopkinsHopkins
213
658811
2696
ed ingegneri della John Hopkins,
11:17
and we're buildingcostruzione a robotrobot that has a numbernumero of,
214
661507
3582
e stiamo costruendo
11:20
it's a specializedspecializzato designdesign with differentdiverso jointsgiunti that can allowpermettere
215
665089
3257
11:24
the needlesaghi to come in at an infiniteinfinito varietyvarietà of anglesangoli,
216
668346
4258
11:28
and as you can see here, they can avoidevitare delicatedelicato organsorgani
217
672604
3166
E come potete vedere qui, riescono a evitare gli organi delicati
11:31
and still reachraggiungere the targetsobiettivi they're aimingcon l'obiettivo for.
218
675770
4138
e arrivare comunque nei punti interessati.
11:35
So, by questioninginterrogativo this assumptionassunzione that all the needlesaghi
219
679908
3317
11:39
have to be parallelparallelo, this projectprogetto alsoanche taughtinsegnato me
220
683225
2945
11:42
an importantimportante lessonlezione: When in doubtdubbio --
221
686170
3300
una lezione importante: nel dubbio,
11:45
When your pathsentiero is blockedbloccato, pivotpivot.
222
689470
4367
se il sentiero è bloccato, giragli intorno.
11:49
And the last projectprogetto alsoanche has to do with medicalmedico roboticsRobotica.
223
693837
4401
11:54
And this is something that's growncresciuto out of a systemsistema calledchiamato
224
698238
4040
Nasce da un sistema chiamato
11:58
the dada VinciVinci surgicalchirurgico robotrobot,
225
702278
3588
robot chirurgico da Vinci,
12:01
and this is a commerciallycommercialmente availablea disposizione devicedispositivo.
226
705866
2468
un dispositivo in commercio.
12:04
It's beingessere used in over 2,000 hospitalsospedali around the worldmondo,
227
708334
3332
12:07
and the ideaidea is it allowsconsente the surgeonchirurgo
228
711666
2528
12:10
to operateoperare comfortablycomodamente in his ownproprio coordinatecoordinare frametelaio,
229
714194
4249
12:14
but manymolti of the subtaskssottoattività in surgerychirurgia
230
718443
4991
ma molti dei compiti minori in chirurgia,
12:19
are very routineroutine and tediousnoioso, like suturingsutura,
231
723434
3047
come la sutura, sono monotoni e ripetitivi,
12:22
and currentlyattualmente, all of these are performedeseguita
232
726481
2365
e oggi sono tutti compiuti
12:24
undersotto the specificspecifica and immediateimmediato controlcontrollo of the surgeonchirurgo,
233
728846
4420
sotto controllo diretto ed esclusivo del chirurgo,
12:29
so the surgeonchirurgo becomesdiventa fatiguedaffaticato over time.
234
733266
2658
che col passare del tempo si affatica.
12:31
And we'venoi abbiamo been wonderingchiedendosi,
235
735924
1295
Ci siamo chiesti
12:33
what if we could programprogramma the robotrobot
236
737219
2265
se fosse possibile programmare il robot
12:35
to performeseguire some of these subtaskssottoattività,
237
739484
2487
per fargli compiere alcuni compiti minori,
12:37
and therebyin tal modo freegratuito the surgeonschirurghi to focusmessa a fuoco
238
741971
1720
permettendo al chirurgo di concentrarsi
12:39
on the more complicatedcomplicato partsparti of the surgerychirurgia,
239
743691
2656
sulle parti più complesse dell'operazione
12:42
and alsoanche cuttagliare down on the time that the surgerychirurgia would take
240
746347
3248
e ridurre inoltre i tempi in sala operatoria,
12:45
if we could get the robotrobot to do them a little bitpo fasterPiù veloce?
241
749595
3023
12:48
Now, it's harddifficile to programprogramma a robotrobot to do delicatedelicato things
242
752618
2434
È difficile programmarli a svolgere attività delicate
12:50
like this, but it turnsgiri out my colleaguecollega, PieterPieter AbbeelAltieri,
243
755052
4079
12:55
who'schi è here at BerkeleyBerkeley, has develelopeddeveleloped
244
759131
2416
che lavora qui a Berkeley, ha sviluppato
12:57
a newnuovo setimpostato of techniquestecniche for teachinginsegnamento robotsrobot from exampleesempio.
245
761547
5623
13:03
So he's gottenottenuto robotsrobot to flyvolare helicopterselicotteri,
246
767170
2767
È riuscito a far loro pilotare elicotteri,
13:05
do incrediblyincredibilmente interestinginteressante, beautifulbellissimo acrobaticsacrobazie,
247
769937
3104
anche con acrobazie incredibilmente interessanti e belle,
13:08
by watchingGuardando humanumano expertsesperti flyvolare them.
248
773041
2719
solamente tramite l'osservazione di piloti esperti.
13:11
So we got one of these robotsrobot.
249
775760
2588
Ci siamo quindi procurati uno di questi robot,
13:14
We startediniziato workinglavoro with PieterPieter and his studentsstudenti,
250
778348
2182
abbiamo iniziato a lavorare con Peter e i suoi studenti,
13:16
and we askedchiesto a surgeonchirurgo to performeseguire
251
780530
2663
13:19
a taskcompito, and what we do is we, with the robotrobot,
252
783193
4451
un compito tramite il robot:
13:23
so what we're doing is askingchiede the robotrobot,
253
787644
2063
dopodiché, noi chiediamo al robot
13:25
the surgeonchirurgo to performeseguire the taskcompito,
254
789707
1278
di eseguire il compito,
13:26
and we recorddisco the motionsmovimenti of the robotrobot.
255
790985
2272
e registriamo i suoi movimenti.
13:29
So here'secco an exampleesempio. I'll use a figurefigura eightotto,
256
793257
2128
Ecco un esempio. Userò il numero otto,
13:31
tracingtracciato out a figurefigura eightotto as an exampleesempio.
257
795385
2240
disegnando il numero otto come esempio.
13:33
So here'secco what it lookssembra like when the robotrobot,
258
797625
3630
Ecco cosa appare quando il robot -
13:37
this is what the robot'sdi robot pathsentiero lookssembra like,
259
801255
2317
ecco cosa ha tracciato il robot,
13:39
those threetre examplesesempi.
260
803572
1174
in questi tre esempi.
13:40
Now, those are much better than what a novicenovizio
261
804746
2462
13:43
like I could do, but they're still jerkya scatti and impreciseimprecisa.
262
807208
4657
13:47
So we recorddisco all these examplesesempi, the datadati,
263
811865
2072
Quindi registriamo tutti questi esempi, i dati,
13:49
and then we go throughattraverso a sequencesequenza of stepspassaggi.
264
813937
3712
e poi eseguiamo una serie di fasi.
13:53
First, we used a techniquetecnica calledchiamato dynamicdinamico time warpingorditura
265
817649
3632
In primis, usiamo una tecnica chiamata curvatura spazio-temporale dinamica
13:57
from speechdiscorso recognitionriconoscimento, and this allowsconsente us to
266
821281
2182
proveniente dal riconoscimento vocale, così da
13:59
temporallytemporalmente alignallineare all of the examplesesempi,
267
823463
2840
allineare provvisoriamente tutti gli esempi,
14:02
and then we applyapplicare KalmanKalman filteringfiltraggio,
268
826303
2929
dopodiché applichiamo il filtro di Kalman,
14:05
a techniquetecnica from controlcontrollo theoryteoria, that allowsconsente us
269
829232
2983
14:08
to statisticallystatisticamente analyzeanalizzare all the noiserumore
270

di analizzare statisticamente tutto il rumore
14:10
and extractestratto the desireddesiderata trajectorytraiettoria that underliesè alla base them.
271
834887
6183
14:16
Now, so what we're doing is that we take those

humanumano demonstrationsdimostrazioni, they're all noisyrumoroso and imperfectimperfetto,
273
843064
2023
tutte rumorose e imperfette,
14:20
and we extractestratto from them an inferreddedotto taskcompito trajectorytraiettoria
274
845087
3091
14:24
and controlcontrollo sequencesequenza for the robotrobot.
275
848178
3003
e la sequenza di controllo del robot.
14:27
We then executeeseguire that on the robotrobot,
276
851181
2184
Poi lo eseguiamo sul robot,
14:29
we observeosservare what happensaccade,
277
853365
2172
osserviamo cosa succede,
14:31
then we adjustregolare the controlscontrolli usingutilizzando a sequencesequenza of techniquestecniche
278
855537
2662
14:34
calledchiamato iterativeiterativo learningapprendimento.
279
858199
2930
chiamate apprendimento iterativo.
14:37
Then what we do is, we increaseaumentare the velocityvelocità a little bitpo.
280
861129
3977
Dopodiché aumentiamo un po' la velocità,
14:41
We observeosservare the resultsrisultati, adjustregolare the controlscontrolli again,
281
865106
3563
osserviamo i risultati, sistemiamo di nuovo i controlli,
14:44
and observeosservare what happensaccade.
282
868669
2522
e osserviamo cosa succede.
14:47
And we go throughattraverso this severalparecchi roundsArrotonda.
283
871191
2136
Ripetiamo il tutto diverse volte,
14:49
And here'secco the resultrisultato.
284
873327
1356
ed ecco il risultato.
14:50
That's the inferreddedotto taskcompito trajectorytraiettoria,
285
874683
1845
Questa è la traiettoria del compito,
14:52
and here'secco the robotrobot movingin movimento at the speedvelocità of the humanumano.
286
876528
3463
14:55
Here'sQui è fourquattro timesvolte the speedvelocità of the humanumano.
287
879991
2442
Qui a quattro volte la velocità umana,
14:58
Here'sQui è sevenSette timesvolte.
288
882433
2571
qui a sette volte.
15:00
And here'secco the robotrobot operatingoperativo at 10 timesvolte
289
885004
3637
15:04
the speedvelocità of the humanumano.
290
888641
2200
la velocità umana.
15:06
So we're ablecapace to get a robotrobot to performeseguire a delicatedelicato taskcompito,
291
890841
2950
15:09
like a surgicalchirurgico subtasksottoattività,
292
893791
3224
come un'attività chirurgica minore,
15:12
at 10 timesvolte the speedvelocità of a humanumano.
293
897015
3247
a dieci volte la velocità umana.
15:16
So this projectprogetto alsoanche, because of its involvedcoinvolti practicingpraticante
294
900262
4223
Questo progetto, grazie all'esercizio che richiede
15:20
and learningapprendimento, doing something over and over again,
295
904485
2173
15:22
this projectprogetto alsoanche has a lessonlezione, whichquale is,
296
906658
2757
insegna una lezione, ossia:
15:25
if you want to do something well,
297
909415
3126
se desideri fare bene qualcosa,
15:28
there's no substitutesostituire for practicepratica, practicepratica, practicepratica.
298
912541
7948
15:36
So these are fourquattro of the lessonsLezioni that I've learnedimparato

Ecco dunque quattro lezioni che ho imparato

And now I get to teachinsegnare her how things work,
311
960167

16:18
and we get to buildcostruire projectsprogetti togetherinsieme, and I wondermeravigliarsi
