1955
03:22
three lessons教訓 from water-poor水窮 countries國家
59
190297
2144
03:24
and how they survived倖存 and even thrived蓬勃發展
despite儘管 their water crisis危機.
60
192465
4695
03:30
Lesson one:
61
198231
1610
03:31
tell people how much water
they really have.
62
199865
2337
03:35
In order訂購 to solve解決 a problem問題,
63
203185
1435
03:36
we need to acknowledge確認 that we have one.
64
204644
1992
03:39
And when it comes to water,
65
207169
1330
03:40
people can easily容易 turn a blind eye,
66
208523
2486
03:43
pretending假裝 that since以來 water
is coming未來 out of the tap龍頭 now,
67
211033
2840
03:45
everything will be fine forever永遠.
68
213897
1582
03:48
But some smart聰明, drought-affected受旱災影響的 countries國家
69
216703
3068
03:54
to make sure their citizens公民,
their communities社區 and their companies公司
71
222204
3857
03:58
know just how dry their countries國家 are.
72
226085
1986
04:02
When I was in Cape Town earlier this year,
73
230159
2417
04:04
I saw this electronic電子 billboard廣告牌
on the freeway高速公路,
74
232600
2900
04:07
indicating說明 how much water
the city had left.
75
235524
2234
04:11
This is an idea理念 they may可能 well have
borrowed from Australia澳大利亞
76
239004
2968
04:13
when it faced面對 one of the worst最差 droughts乾旱
of the country's history歷史
77
241996
3647
04:17
from 1997 to 2009.
78
245667
2655
04:21
Water levels水平 in Melbourne墨爾本
dropped下降 to a very low capacity容量
79
249273
3510
04:24
of almost幾乎 26 percent百分.
80
252807
1804
04:27
But the city didn't yell叫喊 at people.
81
255917
1739
04:30
It didn't plead求情 with them
not to use water.
82
258515
2191
04:33
They used electronic電子 billboards廣告牌
to flash available可得到 levels水平 of water
83
261427
4394
04:37
to all citizens公民 across橫過 the city.
84
265845
2005
04:40
They were honestly老老實實 telling告訴 people
how much water they really have,
85
268429
3397
04:43
and letting出租 them take
04:47
By the end結束 of the drought乾旱,
this created創建 such這樣 a sense of urgency
87
275083
4007
04:51
as well as a sense of community社區.
88
279114
1647
04:53
Nearly幾乎 one out of three citizens公民
in Melbourne墨爾本 had invested投資
89
281281
3733
for their own擁有 households.
90
285038
3672
05:01
Actions操作 that citizens公民 took didn't stop
at installing安裝 those tanks坦克.
91
289799
3767
05:06
With help from the city,
92
294461
1328
05:07
they were able能夠 to do something
even more impactful影響力.
93
295813
2393
05:11
Taking me to lesson two:
94
299509
1401
05:14
empower授權 people to save保存 water.
95
302285
2417
05:18
Melbourne墨爾本 wanted people
to spend less water in their homes家園.
96
306658
3477
05:22
And one way to do that is to spend
less time in the shower淋浴.
97
310636
2987
that some people, women婦女 in particular特定,
98
314644
3935
05:30
weren't keen敏銳 on saving保存 water that way.
99
318603
2016
05:33
Some of them honestly老老實實 said,
100
321554
1696
05:35
"The shower淋浴 is not just to clean清潔 up.
101
323274
1843
05:37
It's my sanctuary
102
325141
1634
05:39
It's a space空間 I go to relax放鬆,
not just clean清潔 up."
103
327218
3032
05:43
So the city started開始 offering
05:47
And then, now some people complained
that the showerheads淋浴 looked看著 ugly醜陋
105
335638
3476
05:51
or didn't suit適合 their bathrooms浴室.
106
339138
2178
05:53
So what I like to call
"The Showerhead噴頭 Team球隊"
107
341340
2408
05:56
developed發達 a small water-flow水流 regulator調節器
108
344423
2447
05:58
that can be fitted
into existing現有 showerheads淋浴.
109
346894
2513
06:03
And although雖然 showerhead噴頭 beauty美女
doesn't matter much to me,
110
351103
3343
06:06
I loved喜愛 how the team球隊 didn't give up
111
354470
2034
06:08
and instead代替 came來了 up with
a simple簡單, unique獨特 solution
112
356528
2748
06:11
to empower授權 people to save保存 water.

06:14
Within a span跨度 of four years年份,
