ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Dan Ariely - Behavioral economist
The dismal science of economics is not as firmly grounded in actual behavior as was once supposed. In "Predictably Irrational," Dan Ariely told us why.

Why you should listen

Dan Ariely is a professor of psychology and behavioral economics at Duke University and a founding member of the Center for Advanced Hindsight. He is the author of the bestsellers Predictably IrrationalThe Upside of Irrationality, and The Honest Truth About Dishonesty -- as well as the TED Book Payoff: The Hidden Logic that Shapes Our Motivations.

Through his research and his (often amusing and unorthodox) experiments, he questions the forces that influence human behavior and the irrational ways in which we often all behave.

Dan Ariely: What makes us feel good about our work?

Bihejvoralni ekonomista, Den Arijeli, prikazuje dva eksperimenta koja otvaraju oči. Oni otkrivaju naš neočekivani i istančan odnos ka našem radu. (Snimljeno na TEDxRiodelaPlata.)

Ispričao mi je sledeću priču:
02:08
He said that for more than two weeksнедељама, he was workingрад on a PowerPointPowerPoint presentationпрезентација.
40
116071
5401
Rekao je da je više od dve nedelje

02:13
He was workingрад in a bigвелики bankбанка.

This was in preparationприпрему for a mergerспајање and acquisitionnabavke.

02:19
And he was workingрад very hardтешко on this presentationпрезентација --

Veoma je naporno
radio na toj prezentaciji -

Svakog dana je radio

02:27
And the day before it was dueдуе,

49
143343

"Lepa prezentacija,

02:40
And the guy was deeplyдубоко depressedдепресиван.
50
148253
2090
Momak je zbog toga bio
jako depresivan.
02:42
Now at the momentтренутак when he was workingрад,
51
150343
2430
No, dok je radio,
02:44
he was actuallyзаправо quiteприлично happyсрећан.
52
152773
1770
bio je zapravo prilično srećan.
02:46
EverySvaki night he was enjoyingуживајући his work,
53

Svake noći tokom koje

02:48
he was stayingостани lateкасни, he was perfectingusavrљavajuжi this PowerPointPowerPoint presentationпрезентација.
54
156822
4650
je ostajao budan do kasno,
usavršavajući svoju prezentaciju.
02:53
But knowingзнајући that nobodyнико would ever watch that madeмаде him quiteприлично depressedдепресиван.
55
161472
5150
Ali saznanje da to niko neće videti
ga je duboko rastužilo.
02:58
So I startedпочела thinkingразмишљање about how do we experimentексперимент
56
166622
2705
Zato sam počeo da razmišljam
kako da napravim eksperiment
03:01
with this ideaидеја of the fruitsvoće of our laborрад.
57
169327
3817
sa idejom o plodovima
našeg rada.
03:05
And to startпочетак with, we createdстворено a little experimentексперимент
58
173144
4232
Za početak,
osmislili smo mali eksperiment
03:09
in whichкоја we gaveдала people LegosLego kockice, and we askedпитао them to buildизградити with LegosLego kockice.
59
177376
6028
u kom smo ljudima dali LEGO igračke
i zamolili ih da ih sastavljaju.
03:15
And for some people, we gaveдала them LegosLego kockice and we said,
60
183404
4202
Nekima smo dali
LEGO igračku i rekli
03:19
"Hey, would you like to buildизградити this BionicleBionicle for threeтри dollarsдолара?
61
187606
4715
"Da li biste za tri dolara
voleli da sagradite robota?"
03:24
We'llCemo payплатите you threeтри dollarsдолара for it."
62
192321
2023
Za to bismo vam platili tri dolara."
03:26
And people said yes, and they builtизграђен with these LegosLego kockice.
63
194344
3248
I rekli su da bi voleli,
tako da su i pravili igračke.
03:29
And when they finishedготов, we tookузела it, we put it underиспод the tableсто,
64
197592
3870
Kada su završili,
mi smo robote stavili pod sto
03:33
and we said, "Would you like to buildизградити anotherдруги one, this time for $2.70?"
65
201462
5025
i rekli: "Da li biste napravili
još jednog, ovog puta za 2,70 dolara?"
03:38
If they said yes, we gaveдала them anotherдруги one.
66
206487
1709
Rekli su da bi,
dali smo im još jednog.
03:40
And when they finishedготов, we askedпитао them,
67
208196
1302
Kada su i to završili,
pitali smo ih
03:41
"Do you want to buildизградити anotherдруги one?" for $2.40, $2.10, and so on,
68
209498
4739
"Da li biste napravili još jednog".
za 2,40 dolara, 2,10 dolara itd.
03:46
untilсве док at some pointтачка people said, "No more. It's not worthвреди it for me."
69
214237
5448
dok u nekom momentu nisu rekli:
"Ne. Nije vredno."
03:51
This was what we calledпозвани the meaningfulсмислено conditionстање.
70
219685
2837
Ovo smo nazvali smislenim uslovima.
03:54
People builtизграђен one BionicleBionicle after anotherдруги.
71
222522
3141
Ljudi su pravili jednog robota,
pa drugog.
03:57
After they finishedготов everyсваки one of them, we put them underиспод the tableсто.
72
225663
3229
Nakon što su svakog završili,
mi smo ih postavljali pod sto.
04:00
And we told them that at the endкрај of the experimentексперимент,
73
228892
2372
Na kraju eksperimenta
smo im rekli
04:03
we will take all these BioniclesBionicles, we will disassemblerastaviti them,
74
231264
3292
da ćemo sve te robote
rastaviti
04:06
we will put them back in the boxesкутије, and we will use it for the nextследећи participantучесник.
75
234556
4657
i vratiti u kutije,
za sledećeg učesnika.
04:11
There was anotherдруги conditionстање.
76
239213
1794
Napravili smo i drugu
verziju eksperimenta.
04:13
This other conditionстање was inspiredинспирирано by DavidDavid, my studentученик.
77
241007
4649
Ovo je bilo inspirisano
Dejvidom, mojim studentom.
04:17
And this other conditionстање we calledпозвани the SisyphicSisyphic conditionстање.
78
245656
3378
Ovu verziju smo nazvali
Sizifovi uslovi.
04:21
And if you rememberзапамтити the storyприча about SisyphusSizifov,
79
249034
2441
I ako se sećate priče o Sizifu,
04:23
SisyphusSizifov was punishedkažnjeni by the godsбогови to pushпусх the sameисти rockроцк up a hillбрдо,
80
251475
5049
njega su kaznili bogovi
time da uz brdo gura jedan isti kamen,
04:28
and when he almostскоро got to the endкрај,
81
256524
2015
a nakon što je zamalo
bio na vrhu,
04:30
the rockроцк would rollролл over, and he would have to startпочетак again.
82
258539
3058
kamen bi se otkotrljao nizbrdo,
a on bi morao krenuti ispočetka.
04:33
And you can think about this as the essenceДуша of doing futileuzaludan work.
83
261597
5094
Ovo možete gledati kao
na suštinu uzaludnog rada.
04:38
You can imagineзамислити that if he pushedгурнут the rockроцк on differentразличит hillsбрда,
84
266691

Možete zamisliti da bi,
da je kamen gurao uz različita brda

89

04:56
There's something about this cyclicalCiklična versionверзија

So in the secondдруго conditionстање of this experimentексперимент, that's exactlyбаш тако what we did.
93
292406
3497
U drugoj verziji našeg
eksperimenta smo uradili baš to.
05:07
We askedпитао people, "Would you like to buildизградити one BionicleBionicle for threeтри dollarsдолара?"
94
295903
5087
Pitali smo:
"Da li biste za tri dolara napravili robota?"
05:12
And if they said yes, they builtизграђен it.
95
300990
1914
Ako su se složili,
napravili bi ga.
05:14
Then we askedпитао them, "Do you want to buildизградити anotherдруги one for $2.70?"
96
302904
3487
Zatim smo ih pitali:
"Da li biste napravili još jednog za 2,70 dolara?".
05:18
And if they said yes, we gaveдала them a newново one,
97
306391
3359
Ako su i tada rekli da bi,
dali smo im još jednog.
05:21
and as they were buildingзграде it,
98

Dok su pravili ovog novog,
05:23
we tookузела apartодвојено the one that they just finishedготов.
99
311715

mi smo rastavili onog

05:26
And when they finishedготов that,

Nakon što su završili

05:29
we said, "Would you like to buildизградити anotherдруги one, this time for 30 centsценти lessмање?"
101
317211
3667
rekli smo: "Da li biste napravili

05:32
And if they said yes, we gaveдала them the one that they builtизграђен and we brokeсломио.
102
320878
4033
Ako su se složili, dali bismo im delove
robota koji su bili napravili, a mi zatim rastavili.
05:36
So this was an endlessбескрајно cycleциклус
103

Dakle, to je bio

104
327211

05:44
Now what happensсе дешава when you compareупоредити these two conditionsуслови?
105
332190
4153
I šta se dešava kada uporedimo
ove dve verzije eksperimenta?
05:48
The first thing that happenedдесило
106
336343
1086
Prvo što se desilo
05:49
was that people builtизграђен manyмноги more BioniclesBionicles -- they builtизграђен 11 versusнаспрам sevenседам --
107
337429
3715
jeste da su ljudi pravili daleko
više robota - 11 u odnosu na 7 -
05:53
in the meaningfulсмислено conditionстање versusнаспрам the SisyphusSizifov conditionстање.
108
341144
3652
u svrsishodnim uslovima
u odnosu na Sizifove prilike.
05:56
And by the way, we should pointтачка out that this was not a bigвелики meaningзначење.
109
344796
3068
Da naglasim, ovo nije bilo
nešto jako značajno.
05:59
People were not curingza leиenje cancerрак or buildingзграде bridgesмостови.
110
347864
2414
Ljudi se nisu lečili od raka
ili gradili mostove.
06:02
People were buildingзграде BioniclesBionicles for a fewнеколико centsценти.
111
350278
4105
Gradili su robote za
nekoliko centi.
06:06
And not only that, everybodyсвима knewзнала that the BioniclesBionicles would be destroyedуништено quiteприлично soonускоро.
112
354383
5051
I ne samo to, svi su znali
da će ti roboti biti vrlo brzo rastavljeni.
06:11
So there was not a realправи opportunityприлика for bigвелики meaningзначење.
113
359434

Dakle, nije bilo prave prilike
za nešto jako značajno.
06:14
But even the smallмали meaningзначење madeмаде a differenceразлика.
114
362328
3885
Ali, čak i male stvari
su napravile razliku.
06:18
Now we had anotherдруги versionверзија of this experimentексперимент.
115
366213
2371
Nakon toga smo napravili
drugačiji eksperiment.
06:20
In this other versionверзија of the experimentексперимент,
116
368584
1539
U ovoj sledećoj verziji
eksperimenta
06:22
we didn't put people in this situationситуација,
117
370123
2337
učesnike nismo dovodili

06:24
we just describedописани to them the situationситуација, much as I am describingописујући to you now,
118
372460
4419
nego smo im je samo opisali,
kao što ja to radim upravo sada.
06:28
and we askedпитао them to predictпредвидети what the resultрезултат would be.
119
376879
3116
Pitali smo ih da predvide
šta bi bio rezultat.
06:31
What happenedдесило?
120
379995
1096
Šta se desilo?
06:33
People predictedпредвидјено the right directionправац but not the right magnitudeвеличина.
121
381091
4051
Razmišljali su u dobrom pravcu,
ali ne u pravom opsegu stvari.
06:37
People who were just givenдато the descriptionОпис of the experimentексперимент
122
385142

123
389198
4313
su rekli da bi u smislenim uslovima

06:45
So people understandРазумем that meaningзначење is importantважно,
124
393511
2450
Dakle, razumeli su da je
smisao važan,
06:47
they just don't understandРазумем the magnitudeвеличина of the importanceзначај,
125
395961

06:52
There was one other pieceпиеце of dataподаци we lookedпогледао at.
127
400878
3084
Sagledali smo još
jedan podatak.
06:55
If you think about it, there are some people who love LegosLego kockice and some people who don't.
128
403962
4918
Ako pomislite, neki ljudi
više vole LEGO igračke od drugih.
07:00
And you would speculateспекулишу that the people who love LegosLego kockice
129
408880
2082
Pomislili biste da bi oni
koji vole LEGO igračke
07:02
will buildизградити more LegosLego kockice, even for lessмање moneyновац,
130
410962
2582
pravili više robota,
čak i za manje novca.
07:05
because after all, they get more internalинтерни joyрадост from it.
131
413544
2934
Uostalom, to ih
više raduje.
07:08
And the people who love LegosLego kockice lessмање will buildизградити lessмање LegosLego kockice
132
416478
3305
A oni koji manje vole LEGO igračke
bi se manje bavili time
07:11
because the enjoymentуживање that they deriveизводити from it is lowerниже.
133
419783
2944
zato što manje uživaju
u tome.
07:14
And that's actuallyзаправо what we foundнашао in the meaningfulсмислено conditionстање.
134
422727
2834
I to je zapravo ono što smo
otkrili u smislenim uslovima.
07:17
There was a very niceлеп correlationкорелација betweenизмеђу love of LegoLego
135
425561
3037
Postojala je veoma lepa korelacija
između ljubavi ka LEGO igračkama

and the amountизнос of LegosLego kockice people builtизграђен.
136

In that conditionстање the correlationкорелација was zeroнула.
138

Tada je korelacija bila nula.
07:28
There was no relationshipоднос betweenизмеђу the love of LegoLego and how much people builtизграђен,

Nije postojala povezanost ljubavi ka LEGO

144
453361

Ubrzo nakon što sam
završio ovaj eksperiment
07:49
I wentотишао to talk to a bigвелики softwareсофтвер companyкомпанија in SeattleSeattle.
145
457078
4064
razgovarao sam sa velikom

07:53
I can't tell you who they were, but they were a bigвелики companyкомпанија in SeattleSeattle.
146
461142
3594
Ne mogu vam reći njihov naziv,
već samo to da su velika firma u Sijetlu.
07:56
And this was a groupгрупа withinу склопу this softwareсофтвер companyкомпанија that was put in a differentразличит buildingзграде.
147
464736
4358
Grupa zaposlenih ove kompanije

08:01
And they askedпитао them to innovateиновирати and createстворити the nextследећи bigвелики productпроизвод for this companyкомпанија.
148
469094
5183
Zamolili su ih da osmisle i naprave

08:06
And the weekНедеља before I showedпоказао up,
149
474277
1866
I nedelju dana pre nego
što sam ja došao,
08:08
the CEOGENERALNI DIREKTOR of this bigвелики softwareсофтвер companyкомпанија wentотишао to that groupгрупа, 200 engineersинжењери,
150
476143
4067
izvršni direktor ove velike programerske firme
je obišao tu grupu od 200 inženjera
08:12

151
480210

i otkazao projekat.
08:15
And I stoodстајао there in frontфронт of 200 of the mostнајвише depressedдепресиван people I've ever talkedпричао to.
152
483311
5155
A ja sam stajao ispred 200 najdepresivnijih

08:20
And I describedописани to them some of these LegoLego experimentsексперименте,
153
488466
3195
Opisao sam im neke od
ovih LEGO eksperimenata
08:23
and they said they feltосетио like they had just been throughкроз that experimentексперимент.
154
491661
4846
i rekli su mi da su se osećali
kao da su upravo učestvovali u njemu.
08:28
And I askedпитао them, I said,
155
496507
1622
Pitao sam ih:
08:30
"How manyмноги of you now showсхов up to work laterкасније than you used to?"
156
498129
3530
"Koliko vas sada na posao dolazi

08:33
And everybodyсвима raisedОдгојен theirњихова handруку.
157
501659
2204
Svi su podigli ruku.
08:35
I said, "How manyмноги of you now go home earlierраније than you used to?"
158
503863
2981
Pitao sam: "Koliko vas sada ide kući

08:38
And everybodyсвима raisedОдгојен theirњихова handруку.
159
506844
1799
Svi su podigli ruku.
08:40
I askedпитао them, "How manyмноги of you now addдодати not-so-kosherNe-tako-koљer things to your expenseтрошак reportsизвештаји?"
160
508643
5866
Pitao sam ih: "Koliko vas sada upisuje
ne-baš-tačne rashode u svojim izveštajima?"
08:46
And they didn't really raiseподићи theirњихова handsруке,
161
514509
1752
I nisu baš podigli svoje ruke,
08:48
but they tookузела me out to dinnerвечера and showedпоказао me what they could do with expenseтрошак reportsизвештаји.
162
516261
5624
ali su me odveli na večeru i pokazali mi šta
mogu raditi sa svojim izveštajima o rashodima.
08:53
And then I askedпитао them, I said,
163
521885
1699
Zatim sam ih pitao:
08:55
"What could the CEOGENERALNI DIREKTOR have doneГотово to make you not as depressedдепресиван?"
164
523584
4600
"Šta je izvršni direktor mogao uraditi
da ne biste postali tako depresivni?"
09:00
And they cameДошао up with all kindsврсте of ideasидеје.
165
528184
2364
Imali su razne ideje.
09:02
They said the CEOGENERALNI DIREKTOR could have askedпитао them to presentпоклон to the wholeцела companyкомпанија
166
530548
3238
Rekli su da ih je izvršni direktor mogao
zamoliti da celoj firmi prezentuju
09:05
about theirњихова journeyпутовање over the last two yearsгодине and what they decidedодлучио to do.
167
533786
3307
svoj rad u protekle dve godine i
šta su odlučili da urade.
09:09
He could have askedпитао them to think about whichкоја aspectаспект of theirњихова technologyтехнологија
168
537093
3865
Mogao ih je zamoliti da razmisle
o tome koji deo njihove tehnologije
09:12
could fitфит with other partsделови of the organizationорганизација.
169
540958
3546
je mogao da se iskoristi u drugim
sektorima njihove organizacije.
09:16
He could have askedпитао them to buildизградити some prototypesпрототипи, some next-generationsledeće generacije prototypesпрототипи,
170
544504
3374
Mogao ih je zamoliti da naprave nekoliko
prototipova najnovije generacije
09:19
and seenвиђено how they would work.
171
547878
1871
da bi video kako bi radili.
09:21
But the thing is that any one of those
172
549749
1995
Ali činjenica je da
bi bilo šta od navedenog
09:23
would requireзахтевати some effortнапор and motivationмотивација.
173
551744
2967
zahtevalo trud i motivaciju.
09:26
And I think the CEOGENERALNI DIREKTOR basicallyу основи did not understandРазумем the importanceзначај of meaningзначење.
174
554711
4153
A ja mislim da taj izvršni direktor
ustvari nije razumeo značaj smislenosti
09:30
If the CEOGENERALNI DIREKTOR, just like our participantsучесника,
175
558864
2264
Da je izvršni direktor,
baš kao naši učesnici,
09:33
thought the essenceДуша of meaningзначење is unimportantnebitne,
176
561128
3101
mislio da je suština
smislenosti nevažna,
09:36
then he [wouldn'tне би] careнега.
177
564229
1357
onda ne bi mario za to.
09:37
And he would tell them, "At the momentтренутак I directedрежиран you in this way,
178
565586
2965
I rekao bi im: "Tada sam vas uputio
na jedan način,
09:40
and now that I am directingrežija you in this way,
179
568551
1602
a sada vam dajem
drugačija uputstva,
09:42
everything will be okay."
180
570153
1960
sve će biti u redu."
09:44
But if you understoodпримљено к знању how importantважно meaningзначење is,
181
572113
2548
Ali da ste razumeli
značaj smislenosti,
09:46
then you would figureфигура out that it's actuallyзаправо importantважно
182
574661
2417
shvatili biste
da je zapravo bitno
09:49
to spendпотрошити some time, energyенергија and effortнапор
183
577078
1883
provesti neko vreme,
potrošiti energiju i trud
09:50
in gettingдобијања people to careнега more about what they're doing.
184
578961
3435
u to da ljudi više mare
za ono što rade.
09:54
The nextследећи experimentексперимент was slightlyмало differentразличит.
185
582396
2708
Sledeći eksperiment je
bio nešto drugačiji.
09:57
We tookузела a sheetлист of paperпапир with randomслучајно lettersслова,
186
585104
2657
Uzeli smo list papira
sa nasumičnim slovima,
09:59
and we askedпитао people to find pairsпарови of lettersслова that were identicalидентично nextследећи to eachсваки other.
187
587761
4471
i zamolili ljude da nađu parove slova
koji su identični, a stoje jedan pored drugog.
10:04
That was the taskзадатак.
188
592232
1148
Ovo je bio zadatak.
10:05
And people did the first sheetлист.
189
593380
1383
Učesnici su prošli kroz
prvi list papira.
10:06
And then we askedпитао them if they wanted to do the nextследећи sheetлист for a little bitмало lessмање moneyновац
190
594763
3060
Zatim smo ih pitali da li bi uradili
još jedan za nešto manje para,
10:09
and the nextследећи sheetлист for a little bitмало lessмање moneyновац, and so on and so forthнапред.
191
597823
2958
a zatim još jedan za još malo
manje novca, i tako dalje.
10:12
And we had threeтри conditionsуслови.
192
600781
1883
Imali smo tri verzije uslova.
10:14
In the first conditionстање, people wroteнаписао theirњихова nameиме on the sheetлист,
193
602664
3688
U prvoj, ljudi su napisali
svoje ime na list papira,
10:18
foundнашао all the pairsпарови of lettersслова, gaveдала it to the experimenterекспериментатор.
194
606352
3678
pronašli sve parove slova
i predali papir rukovodiocu eksperimenta.
10:22
The experimenterекспериментатор would look at it, scanскенирање it from topврх to bottomдно,
195
610030
3966
On bi ih pogledao,
od vrha do dna lista,
10:25
say "uh huh" and put it on the pileгомила nextследећи to them.
196
613996
4150
rekao "aham" i ostavio
na gomilu pored.
10:30
In the secondдруго conditionстање, people did not writeпиши theirњихова nameиме on it.
197
618146
3699
U drugoj verziji, ljudi
se nisu potpisivali na papir.
10:33
The experimenterекспериментатор lookedпогледао at it,
198
621845
2218
Rukovodilac eksperimenta
ga je pogledao,
10:36
tookузела the sheetлист of paperпапир, did not look at it, did not scanскенирање it,
199
624063
3133
uzeo papir u svoje ruke,
nije ga uopšte pregledao,
10:39
and simplyједноставно put it on the pileгомила of pagesстранице.
200
627196
3599
već samo položio na
hrpu drugih papira.
10:42
So you take a pieceпиеце, you just put it on the sideстрана.
201
630795
2652
Dakle, papir se preuzme
i samo ostavi sa strane.
10:45
And in the thirdтрећи conditionстање,
202
633447
1146
A u trećoj verziji,
10:46
the experimenterекспериментатор got the sheetлист of paperпапир and directlyдиректно put it into a shreddersekac.
203
634593
8378
rukovodilac eksperimenta je list papira
direktno uništio u uništivaču papira.
10:54
What happenedдесило in those threeтри conditionsуслови?
204
642971
2817
Šta se desilo u ove
tri verzije eksperimenta?
10:57
In this plotпарцела I'm showingпоказивање you at what payплатите rateстопа people stoppedпрестала.
205
645788
4432
Ovde prikazujem na kojoj visini
isplate su učesnici stali sa radom.
11:02
So lowниско numbersбројеви mean that people workedрадио је harderтеже. They workedрадио је for much longerдуже.
206
650220
4518
Manji brojevi znače da su vredno radili.
Radili su mnogo duže.
11:06
In the acknowledgedpriznao je conditionстање, people workedрадио је all the way down to 15 centsценти.
207
654738
4916
U verziji u kojoj dobijaju potvrdu,
radili su sve do 15 centi.
11:11
At 15 centsценти perпер pageстрана, they basicallyу основи stoppedпрестала these effortsНапори.
208
659654
3744
Na 15 centi po stranici,
prestali su sa svojim trudom.
11:15
In the shreddersekac conditionстање, it was twiceдва пута as much -- 30 centsценти perпер sheetлист.
209
663398
4755
U verziji sa uništivačem papira, granica je
bila duplo viša - 30 centi po listu.
11:20
And this is basicallyу основи the resultрезултат we had before.
210
668153
2173
U suštini, ovo je isti rezultat
koji smo imali ranije.
11:22
You shredЉred people'sљуди effortsНапори, outputизлаз,
211
670326
3478
Pocepate li napore ljudi,
njihov proizvod.
11:25
you get them not to be as happyсрећан with what they're doing.
212
673804
2499
postižete to da neće biti srećni
onim što rade.
11:28
But I should pointтачка out, by the way,
213
676303
1535
Ali trebao bih da ukažem i na to
11:29
that in the shreddersekac conditionстање, people could have cheatedпреварен.
214
677838
2965
da su u verziji sa uništivačem papira
ljudi mogli varati.
11:32
They could have doneГотово not so good work,
215
680803
2181
Mogli su da se ne potrude,
11:34
because they realizedреализован that people were just shreddingkomadanje it.
216
682984
2503
jer su shvatili da se to
samo uništava.
11:37
So maybe the first sheetлист you would do good work,
217
685487
1867
Možda su se potrudili na
prvom listu papira,
11:39
but then you see nobodyнико is really testingтестирање it,
218
687354
1919
ali kada su videli da
niko to ne proverava,
11:41
so you would do more and more and more.
219
689273
2195
mogli su da rade više i više.
11:43
So in factчињеница, in the shreddersekac conditionстање,
220
691468
1562
Tako da su u verziji sa uništivačem
11:45
people could have submittedpredao more work and gottenготтен more moneyновац
221
693030
2874
učesnici mogli predati više
listova i dobiti više novca,
11:47
and put lessмање effortнапор into it.
222
695904
2419
a uložiti manje truda u to.
11:50
But what about the ignoredигнорисана conditionстање?
223
698323
2147
Ali šta ćemo sa verzijom gde
se rad samo ignoriše?
11:52
Would the ignoredигнорисана conditionстање be more like the acknowledgedpriznao je or more like the shreddersekac,
224
700470
3513
Da li bi tada rezultati bili sličniji
verziji kada se rad priznaje ili uništava,
11:55
or somewhereнегде in the middleсредина?
225
703983
2019
ili negde između?
11:58
It turnsокреће се out it was almostскоро like the shreddersekac.
226
706002
3356
Ispostavilo se da je bilo skoro
isto kao u verziji sa uništivačem.
12:01
Now there's good newsвести and badлоше newsвести here.
227
709358
2807
Imamo dobru i lošu vest.
12:04

And there's an oldстари storyприча about cakeторта mixesмикес.
252
795274
4372
Postoji stara priča o

13:31
So when they startedпочела cakeторта mixesмикес in the '40s,
253
799646
3028
Kada su sa tim započeli
u 1940-im godinama,
13:34
they would take this powderпрах and they would put it in a boxбок,

802674
3815
sipali bi prah u kutije,
13:38
and they would askпитати housewivesdomaćice to basicallyу основи pourпоур it in, stirkomešanje some waterвода in it,
255
806489

i zamolili domaćice da ga jednostavno

13:42
mixмик it, put it in the ovenпећница, and -- voilaEvo ga! -- you had cakeторта.
256
810928

izmešaju, stave u rernu,
i - eto torte!
13:47
But it turnsокреће се out they were very unpopularnepopularne.
257
815440

Ali se ispostavilo da

13:49
People did not want them.
258
817639

Ljudi ih nisu želeli.
13:51
And they thought about all kindsврсте of reasonsразлоге for that.
259
819424
2299
Razmišljali su o

13:53
Maybe the tasteукус was not good.
260
821723
1433
Možda ukus nije bio dobar.
13:55
No, the tasteукус was great.
261
823156
1500
Ne, ukus je bio odličan.
13:56
What they figuredфигуред out was that there was not enoughдовољно effortнапор involvedукључени.
262
824656
5024
Ono do čega su došli jeste
da nije uloženo dovoljno truda.
14:01
It was so easyлако that nobodyнико could serveслужи cakeторта to theirњихова guestsгостима
263
829680
3401
Postupak je bio toliko jednostavan
da niko nije mogao poslužiti tortu gostima
14:05
and say, "Here is my cakeторта."
264
833081
2308

14:07
No, no, no, it was somebodyнеко else'sдруго cakeторта.
265
835389
1569
Ne, tu tortu je
napravio neko drugi.
14:08
It was as if you boughtкупио it in the storeпродавница.
266
836958
2015
To je kao da ste je

14:10
It didn't really feel like your ownвластити.
267
838973
2411
Nedostajao je osećaj
da je to nešto vaše.
14:13
So what did they do?
268
841384
1659
I šta su uradili?
14:15
They tookузела the eggsjaja and the milkмлеко out of the powderпрах.
269
843043
3667
Iz smeše su izostavili
jaja i mleko.
14:18
(LaughterSmeh)
270

1353
(Smeh)
14:20
Now you had to breakпауза the eggsjaja and addдодати them.
271
848063
3841
Tako da ste sada morali
da razbijete jaja i umešate ih u smesu.
14:23
You had to measureмеру the milkмлеко and addдодати it, mixingмешање it.
272
851904
2970
Morali ste da izmerite mleko
i dodate ga, mešajući.
14:26
Now it was your cakeторта. Now everything was fine.
273
854874
2815
Sada je to bila vaša torta.
I sve je bilo u redu.
14:29
(ApplauseAplauz)
274
857689
9586
(Aplauz)
14:39
Now I think a little bitмало like the IKEAIKEA effectефекат,
275
867275
2768
Mislim da je ovo slično
efektu IKEA nameštaja,
14:42
by gettingдобијања people to work harderтеже,
276
870043
1966
da time što ste učinili
da ljudi rade više,
14:44
they actuallyзаправо got them to love what they're doing to a higherвише degreeстепен.
277
872009
3753
zapravo su više
zavoleli to što su radili.
14:47
So how do we look at this questionпитање experimentallyeksperimentalno?
278
875762
3022
A kako ovo pitanje posmatramo
putem eksperimenta?
14:50
We askedпитао people to buildизградити some origamiorigami.
279
878784
2439
Zamolili smo učesnike
da naprave origami.
14:53
We gaveдала them instructionsупутства on how to createстворити origamiorigami,
280
881223
2853
Dali smo im uputstva za to,
14:56
and we gaveдала them a sheetлист of paperпапир.
281
884076
1686
i dali smo im list papira.
14:57
And these were all novicespripravnice, and they builtизграђен something that was really quiteприлично uglyружно --
282
885762
4314
Ovo su sve bili početnici
i napravili su nešto dosta loše -
15:02
nothing like a frogжаба or a craneCrane.
283
890076
2667
ništa što je ličilo
na žabu ili ždrala.
15:04
But then we told them, we said, "Look, this origamiorigami really belongsприпада to us.
284
892743
3532
Ali nakon toga smo im rekli:
"Vidite, ovaj origami je u stvari naš.
15:08
You workedрадио је for us, but I'll tell you what, we'llдобро sellпродати it to you.
285
896275
2817
Radili ste za nas, ali hajde da
mi to vama prodamo.
15:11
How much do you want to payплатите for it?"
286
899092
2135
Koliko biste za to platili?".
15:13
And we measuredизмерена how much they were willingспремни to payплатите for it.
287
901227
2983
Merili smo koliko su novca
bili spremni da plate.
15:16
And we had two typesврсте of people.
288
904210
1973
Imali smo dve vrste ljudi.
15:18
We had the people who builtизграђен it,
289
906183
1927
Imali smo ljude koji
su ga napravili,
15:20
and we had the people who did not buildизградити it and just lookedпогледао at it as externalекстерно observersPosmatrači.
290
908110
4914
i ljude koji uopšte nisu pravili origami,
već su samo posmatrali.
15:25
And what we foundнашао was that the buildersградитељи thought
291
913024
2404
I otkrili smo da su oni koji
su pravili origami mislili
15:27
that these were beautifulЛепа piecesкомада of origamiorigami,
292
915428
3514
da su to divna dela origamija,
15:30
and they were willingспремни to payплатите for them fiveпет timesпута more
293
918942
2539
i bili su voljni da plate
i do pet puta više
15:33
than the people who just evaluatedizračunaju them externallyeksterno.
294
921481
3158
nego oni koji su samo
procenjivali sa strane.
15:36
Now you could say, if you were a buildergraditelj,
295
924639
3025
No, možete reći da,
ako biste pravili origami
15:39
do you think that, "Oh, I love this origamiorigami, but I know that nobodyнико elseдруго would love it?"
296
927664
6439
da biste mislili: "Oh, volim ovaj origami,
ali znam da se nikom drugom ne sviđa"?
15:46
Or do you think, "I love this origamiorigami, and everybodyсвима elseдруго will love it as well?"
297
934103
5694
Ili biste mislili: "Volim ovaj origami,
i svima ostalima se takođe sviđa"?
15:51
WhichŠto one of those two is correctтачно?
298
939797
2469
Šta je od ovoga tačno?
15:54
TurnsPretvara out the buildersградитељи not only lovedвољен the origamiorigami more,
299
942266
3157
Ispostavilo se da oni koji su pravili
origami, ne samo da su ga više voleli,
15:57
they thought that everybodyсвима would see the worldсвет in theirњихова viewпоглед.
300
945423
3498
već su mislili da će svi ostali
razmišljati isto.
16:00
They thought everybodyсвима elseдруго would love it more as well.
301
948921
3021
Mislili su da će se i
ostalima svideti.
16:03
In the nextследећи versionверзија we triedПокушали to do the IKEAIKEA effectефекат.
302
951942
3052
U sledećoj verziji smo pokušali
da postignemo IKEA efekat.
16:06
We triedПокушали to make it more difficultтешко.
303
954994
1799
Pokušali smo da sve
napravimo komplikovanije.
16:08
So for some people we gaveдала the sameисти taskзадатак.
304
956793
2910
Nekim učesnicima smo
dali isti zadatak.
16:11
For some people we madeмаде it harderтеже by hidingkrije the instructionsупутства.
305
959703
4022
Ostalima smo otežali tako
što smo sakrili uputstva.
16:15
At the topврх of the sheetлист, we had little diagramsдијаграми of how do you foldфолд origamiorigami.
306
963725
4272
Na vrhu lista papira smo imali
male dijagrame kako se savija origami.
16:19
For some people we just eliminatedелиминисан that.
307
967997
2746
Nekima smo to izbrisali.
16:22
So now this was tougherтеже. What happenedдесило?
308
970743
2959
Tako je ovo bilo teže.
Šta se desilo?
16:25
Well in an objectiveобјективан way, the origamiorigami now was uglierružniji, it was more difficultтешко.
309
973702
5907
Objektivno, origami je bio ružniji,
i bilo je komplikovanije napraviti ga.
16:31
Now when we lookedпогледао at the easyлако origamiorigami,
310
979609
2102
Kada smo analizirali
lakši origami,
16:33
we saw the sameисти thing: BuildersGraditelji lovedвољен it more, evaluatorsovlašćeni procenjivači lovedвољен it lessмање.
311
981711
4392
zaključak je bio isti: onima koji su ga
pravili se više sviđao nego posmatračima.
16:38
When you lookedпогледао at the hardтешко instructionsупутства,
312
986103
2161
Kada smo analizirali
verziju sa težom izradom,
16:40
the effectефекат was largerвеће.
313
988264
2930
efekat je bio značajniji.
16:43
Why? Because now the buildersградитељи lovedвољен it even more.
314
991194
5078
Zašto? Jer se onima koji su
ga pravili još više svideo.
16:48
They put all this extraекстра effortнапор into it.
315
996272
2654
Više su se potrudili
oko izrade.
16:50
And evaluatorsovlašćeni procenjivači? They lovedвољен it even lessмање.
316
998926
4098
A posmatrači?
Njima se svideo još manje.
16:55
Because in realityреалност it was even uglierružniji than the first versionверзија.
317
1003024
4405
Jer je realno stvarno bio
ružniji od prve verzije.
16:59
Of courseкурс, this tellsкаже you something about how we evaluateпроценити things.
318
1007429
5097
Naravno, ovo vam govori o tome
kako da ocenite stvari.
17:04
Now think about kidsклинци.
319
1012526
2205
Pomislite na decu,
17:06
ImagineZamislite I askedпитао you, "How much would you sellпродати your kidsклинци for?"

321
1019145
2635
Uzimajući u obzir vaša sećanja,

17:13
MostVećina people would say for a lot, a lot of moneyновац --
322
1021780
3423
Većina bi rekla da bi to bilo
puno, puno novca -
17:17

17:19
(LaughterSmeh)

17:20
But imagineзамислити this was slightlyмало differentразличит.
325
1028303
1768
Ali zamislite da je situacija
nešto drugačija.
17:22
ImagineZamislite if you did not have your kidsклинци,
326
1030071
1579
Zamislite da nemate decu,

17:29
And when you were about to leaveодлази, the parentsродитељи said,

17:41
MostVećina people say not that much.
334
1049424

Većina bi rekla,
ne baš puno.
17:43
And this is because our kidsклинци are so valuableвредно,
335
1051924
4819
A to je zato što su nam
naša deca toliko dragocena,
17:48
not just because of who they are,
336
1056743

ne samo zbog toga ko su,

338

17:56
And by the way, if you think that IKEAIKEA instructionsупутства are not good,
339
1064984
3258
Inače, ako mislite da

1092833
3397
Ako uporedite Adama Smita
i Karla Marksa,
18:28
AdamAdam SmithSmith had the very importantважно notionпојам of efficiencyефикасност.
350
1096230
4116
Adam Smit je imao značajnu
misao o efikasnosti.
18:32
He gaveдала an exampleпример of a pinпин factoryфабрика.
351
1100346
2834
Dao je primer fabrike čioda.
18:35
He said pinsigle have 12 differentразличит stepsкораци,
352
1103180
3265
Rekao je da se čiode
sastavljaju u 12 različitih koraka,
18:38
and if one personособа does all 12 stepsкораци, productionпроизводња is very lowниско.
353
1106445
4117
i ako jedna osoba prolazi svih 12 koraka,
nivo proizvodnje je veoma nizak.
18:42
But if you get one personособа to do stepкорак one
354
1110562
2500
Ako ako jednoj osobi
poverite prvi korak,
18:45
and one personособа to do stepкорак two and stepкорак threeтри and so on,
355
1113062
2403
a sledećoj osobi korak broj dva,
pa korak broj tri i tako dalje,
18:47
productionпроизводња can increaseповећати tremendouslyстрашно.
356
1115465
2798
nivo proizvodnje može
izuzetno porasti.
18:50
And indeedзаиста, this is a great exampleпример and the reasonразлог for the IndustrialIndustrijske RevolutionRevolucija and efficiencyефикасност.
357
1118263
5534
I zaista, ovo je odličan primer i razlog
pokretanja industrijske revolucije i efikasnosti.
18:55
KarlKarl MarxMarks, on the other handруку,
358
1123797
2083
S druge strane, Karl Marks
18:57
said that the alienationotuđenja of laborрад is incrediblyневероватно importantважно
359
1125880
3301
je rekao da je otuđenje posla
izuzetno važno
19:01
in how people think about the connectionвеза to what they are doing.
360
1129181
3604
za to kako se ljudi povezuju
sa onim što rade.
19:04
And if you make all 12 stepsкораци, you careнега about the pinпин.
361
1132785
3294
Ako prođete svih 12 koraka,
stalo vam je do te čiode.
19:08
But if you make one stepкорак everyсваки time, maybe you don't careнега as much.
362
1136079
3824
Ali ako svaki put ponavljate samo
jedan korak, možda vam neće toliko stati.
19:11
And I think that in the IndustrialIndustrijske RevolutionRevolucija,
363
1139903
2883
I mislim da je u industrijskoj revoluciji,
19:14
AdamAdam SmithSmith was more correctтачно than KarlKarl MarxMarks,
364
1142786
3344
Adam Smit bio više u pravu
od Karla Marksa,
19:18
but the realityреалност is that we'veми смо switchedсвитцхед
365
1146130
2817
ali u stvarnosti je suprotno
19:20
and now we're in the knowledgeзнање economyекономија.
366
1148947
2366
i sada smo u
ekonomiji znanja.
19:23
And you can askпитати yourselfсами, what happensсе дешава in a knowledgeзнање economyекономија?
367
1151313
2733
I možete se zapitati,
šta se dešava u ekonomiji znanja?
19:26
Is efficiencyефикасност still more importantважно than meaningзначење?
368
1154046
3418
Da li je efikasnost i dalje
važnija od smislenosti?
19:29
I think the answerодговор is no.
369
1157464
1582
Mislim da je odgovor ne.
19:31
I think that as we moveпотез to situationsситуације
370
1159046
2167
Mislim da kako smo
prolazili kroz situacije
19:33
in whichкоја people have to decideодлучити on theirњихова ownвластити
371
1161213
2983
u kojima je trebalo da ljudi sami odluče
19:36
about how much effortнапор, attentionпажњу, caringбрижан, how connectedповезан they feel to it,
372
1164196
3788
koliko će truda, pažnje,
brige i povezanosti imati,
19:39
are they thinkingразмишљање about laborрад on the way to work and in the showerтуш and so on,
373
1167984
4050
da li o svom radu misle na putu
do posla ili pod tušem i tako dalje,
19:44
all of a suddenизненадан MarxMarks has more things to say to us.
374
1172034
4459
odjednom Marks ima
više smisla za nas.
19:48
So when we think about laborрад, we usuallyобично think about motivationмотивација and paymentplaćanja as the sameисти thing,
375
1176493
4937
Kada razmišljamo o radu, obično
su motivacija i zarada ista stvar,
19:53
but the realityреалност is that we should probablyвероватно addдодати all kindsврсте of things to it --
376
1181430
3758
ali u stvarnosti bi tome
verovatno trebalo dodati još stvari -
19:57
meaningзначење, creationстварање, challengesизазове, ownershipвласништво, identityидентитет, prideponos, etcитд.
377
1185188
4355
smislenost, stvaranje, izazove,
vlasništvo, identitet, ponos, itd.
20:01
And the good newsвести is that if we addedдодато all of those componentsкомпоненте and thought about them,
378
1189543
4307
Dobra vest je da ako dodamo sve
nabrojano i mislimo o tome,
20:05
how do we createстворити our ownвластити meaningзначење, prideponos, motivationмотивација,
379
1193850
3398
kako ostvarujemo svoj smisao,
ponos, motivaciju,
20:09
and how do we do it in our workplaceрадно место and for the employeesзапослени,
380
1197248
3433
i kako to radimo na svom radnom mestu
i za zaposlene,
20:12
I think we could get people to bothи једно и друго be more productiveпродуктиван and happierсрећније.
381
1200681
3823
mislim da možemo dobiti
produktivnije i srećnije ljude.
