This is my niece, Stella.

Kjo është mbesa ime Stella.
ajo sapo ka mbushur një vit,
00:15
She's just turned one and started to walk.
1
3561
2496
dhe ka filluar të ecë.
00:18
And she's walking in that really cool way that
one-year-olds do,
2
6057
3000
Ajo ecën si çdo një vjeçar tjetër
00:21
a kind of teetering, my-body's-moving-
too-fast-for-my-legs kind of way.
3
9057
5216
duke u lëkundur,
e lëviz trupin më shpejt se këmbët
Është absolutisht e mahnitshme
00:26
It is absolutely gorgeous.
4
14273
2489
00:28
And one of her favorite
things to do at the moment
5
16762
2618
00:31
is to stare at herself in the mirror.
6

2464
Asaj i pëlqen shumë reflektimi i vetes
në pasqyrë,
00:33
She absolutely loves her reflection.
7
21844
3155
00:36
She giggles and squeals, and gives
herself these big, wet kisses.
8

ajo fillon të qeshë e të lëshojë klithma.
Mundohet t'i japë vetes puthje
të mëdha të lëngshme.
00:43
It is beautiful.
9
31371
2013
Është shumë bukur.
00:45
Apparently, all of her friends do this and my mom
tells me that I used to do this,
10
33384
5292
Siç duket të gjithë shoket e saj
bëjnë të njejtën gjë.
Nëna ime më tregon që dhe unë
kam bërë të njejtën gjë.
00:50
and it got me thinking:
11
38676
1515
Dhe më bëri të mendoj,
kur ndalova së bëri këtë?
00:52
When did I stop doing this?
12
40191
3457
Kur përfundoi së qenuri në rregull,
të duam mënyrën se si dukemi?!
00:55
When is it suddenly not okay to love
the way that we look?
13
43648
5303
01:00
Because apparently we don't.
14

Sepse me sa duket nuk e duam
pamjen tonë.
01:03
Ten thousand people every month google,
15

10 mijë persona çdo muaj, pyesin në Google,
"A jam i shëmtuar?"
01:07
"Am I ugly?"

This is Faye. Faye is 13 and she
lives in Denver.
17
57211
4523
Kjo është Faye, ajo është një 13 vjeçare
nga Denver .
01:13
And like any teenager, she just wants to
be liked and to fit in.
18
61734
3974
Dhe si çdo adoleshent tjetër, ajo
dëshiron të pëlqehet dhe të përshatet
01:17
It's Sunday night.
19
65708
1809
Është e Diele mbrëma ,dhe ajo po
përgatitet për javën vijuese në shkollë.
01:19
She's getting ready for the week ahead at school.
20
67517
2694
01:22
And she's slightly dreading it, and
she's a bit confused because
21
70211
2286
01:24
despite her mom telling her all the time
22
72497
2609
i thotë gjatë gjithë kohës, se ajo është
e bukur,
01:27
that she's beautiful,
23
75106
2346
çdo ditë në shkollë, dikush i thotë asaj
se është e shëmtuar .
01:29
every day at school, someone tells her
that she's ugly.
24
77452
5912
Për shkak të dallimit mes asaj se
çfare i thotë e ëma dhe çfarë shokët
01:35
Because of the difference between what her mom
tells her and what her friends
25
83364
3265
01:38
at school, or her peers at school are telling her,
26
86629
3024
kujt t'i besojë .
01:41
she doesn't know who to believe.
27
89653
2365
01:43
So, she takes a video of herself.
She posts it to YouTube
28
92018
3949
01:47
and she asks people to please leave
a comment:
29
95967
2326
01:50
"Am I pretty or am I ugly?"
30
98293
2117
Deri tani Faye ka marrë 13,000 komente,
disa prej tyre jane aq të poshter
01:52
Well, so far, Faye has received
over 13,000 comments.
31
100410
5005
01:57
Some of them are so nasty, they don't
bear thinking about.
32
105415
3604
saqë nuk mundohen të mendojnë për këtë.
02:00
This is an average, healthy-looking
teenage girl receiving this feedback
33
109019
5931
02:06
at one of the most emotionally vulnerable
times in her life.
34
114950
4234
02:11
Thousands of people are posting videos like this,
35
119184
3897
Me mijra njerëz po postojnë video të tilla,
më së shumti vajza adoleshente
02:15
mostly teenage girls, reaching out in this way.
36
123081
3837
Por, ku po i dërgon kjo?
02:18
But what's leading them to do this?
37
126918
1949
02:20
Well, today's teenagers are rarely alone.
38
128867
3907
02:24
They're under pressure to be online
and available at all times,
39
132774
4830
Duke biseduar, shkëmbyer mesazhe,
"pëlqyer", duke komentuar,
02:29
talking, messaging, liking, commenting,
sharing, posting —
40
137604
4541
duke shpërndarë, duke postuar...
Kjo nuk ka të ndalur.
02:34
it never ends.
41
142145
1917
Kurre me pare nuk kemi qene kaq te lidhur
pa ndërprerje, të menjëhershëm, kaq të rinj.
02:36
Never before have we been so connected,
42
144062
2950
02:38
so continuously, so instantaneously, so young.
43
147012
4760
02:43
And as one mom told me, it's like there's a party
in their bedroom every night.
44
151772
4860
Thjesht nuk ka privatësi.
Dhe presioni shoqëror që shkon bashkë me
02:48
There's simply no privacy.
45
156632
3439
02:52
And the social pressures that go along
with that are relentless.
46
160071
4353
të është i pamëshirshem.
02:56
This always-on environment is training
our kids to value themselves
47
164424
4878
Ky trend i të qenit online po i trajnon
fëmijet tanë që të vlerësojnë veten, duke
03:01
based on the number of likes they get
48
169302
1711
03:02
and the types of comments that they receive.
49
171013
2999
03:05
There's no separation between online and offline life.
50
174012
4579
03:10
What's real or what isn't is really
hard to tell the difference between.
51
178591
5573
është shumë e vështirë të bësh
këtë dallim.
03:16
And it's also really hard to tell the difference
between what's authentic
52
184164
3791
03:19
and what's digitally manipulated.
53
187955
2286
Çfarë është e rëndësishme për dikë,
e çfarë është e normale çdo ditë.
03:22
What's a highlight in someone's life versus
what's normal in the context of everyday.
54
190241
5645
Ku po e kërkojnë ata inspirimin?
Epo, mund të shihni fotografitë që hasni
03:27
And where are they looking to for inspiration?
55
195886
3131
03:30
Well, you can see the kinds of images
that are covering the newsfeeds
56
199017
3812
Modelet me përmasa zero po dominojnë
03:34
of girls today.
57
202829
1612
03:36
Size zero models still dominate our catwalks.
58
204441
3214
në pasarela. Airbrushing tani është rutinë,
dhe trende si #thinspiration
03:39
Airbrushing is now routine.
59
207655
2657
03:42
And trends like #thinspiration, #thighgap,
60
210312
2611
#thighgap, #bikinibridge dhe #proana,
Për ata që nuk e dinë,
03:44
#bikinibridge and #proana.
61
212923
2119
03:46
For those who don't know, #proana means pro-anorexia.
62
215042
3544
#proana do të thotë pro-
anorexia.
03:50
These trends are teamed with the
stereotyping and flagrant objectification
63
218586
4841
Keto trende shkojnë së bashku me
krijimin e stereotipeve dhe shndërrimit
03:55
of women in today's popular culture.
64
223427
2204
kaq popullore.
03:57
It is not hard to see what girls are
benchmarking themselves against.
65
225631
5977
trendi.
04:03
But boys are not immune to this either.
66
231608
2449
04:06
Aspiring to the chiseled jaw lines and ripped six packs
of superhero-like sports stars
67

Dëshira e tyre të krijojnë six-pack të
mprehtë, duke imituar
superheronjtë, yjet e sporteve
apo playboy, artistë e muzikantë.
04:11
and playboy music artists.
68
239189
2518
Po ku qëndron problemi në tërë këtë?
Ne të gjithë duam që fëmijët tanë
04:13
But, what's the problem with all of this?
69
241707
2372
04:16
Well, surely we want our kids to grow up as healthy,
well balanced individuals.
70
244079
7053
të rriten të shëndetshëm, dhe të jenë
individë të balancuar.
Por në mes të këtij "foto-obsesioni",
ne po i trajnojmë fëmijët tanë
04:23
But in an image-obsessed culture, we are
training our kids
71
251132
3876
të shpenzojnë më shumë kohë dhe mund
mendor në dukjen e tyre
04:26
to spend more time and mental effort on
their appearance
72
255008

at the expense of all of the other aspects
of their identities.
73
259816
4295
më shumë se në çdo aspekt tjetër
në identitetin e tyre.
04:36
So, things like their relationships, the development
of their physical abilities,
74
264111
4110
Kështu që gjëra të tilla si marrdhëniet
e tyre, zhvillimi fizik, dhe studimet
04:40
and their studies and so on begin to suffer.

Këto nuk janë aktivitete të parëndësishme,
këto janë aktivitete thelbësore

04:54
These are fundamental activities to their

from classroom debate. They're failing
82
297279
1572
05:10
to engage in classroom debate because
83
298851
2131
sepse nuk duan të marrin vëmendje
ndaj mënyres se si duken.
05:12
they don't want to draw attention to the
way that they look.
84

One in five are not showing up to class at all

05:19
on days when they don't feel good about it.
86

05:21
And when it comes to exams,
87

if you don't think you look good enough,
88
310876

se nuk duken bukur, specifikisht
nëse mendojnë se nuk janë të

specifically if you don't think you are thin enough,

than your peers who are not concerned with this.

tyre, që nuk e kanë këtë shqetësim.
05:34
And this is consistent across Finland, the U.S.
92
322464
3143
Kjo është e pranishme në Finlandë, SHBA
dhe Kinë,
05:37
and China, and is true regardless of how much
you actually weigh.
93
325607
6057
dhe ndodh pavarsisht se
sa peshojnë ata në të vertetë.
Më lejoni të sqarohem,
05:43
So to be super clear, we're talking about the
94
331664
2882
05:46
way you think you look, not how
you actually look.
95
334546

Low body confidence is undermining

akademike .
Por kjo gjithashtu dëmton shëndetin,
adoleshentët me vetëbesim të ulët
05:56
But it's also damaging health.
97
344544
2408
05:58
Teenagers with low body confidence

Dhe në mendojmë që këto janë arsyet
06:17
And we think it's for all of these reasons
that they take more risks
105

që i bëjnë ata të marrin përsipër

07:02
Have a think about what this is doing
118
410961
1905
07:04
to our economy.
119
412866
1716
07:06
If we could overcome this, what that
120
414582
1862
Nëse do të tejkalonim këtë, si do të ishin
mundësitë...
07:08
opportunity looks like.
121
416444
2310
Të nxjerrim në dritë këtë potencial,
është në interesin e secilit prej nesh.
07:10
Unlocking this potential is in the interest
122
418754
2595
07:13
of every single one of us.
123
421349
3260
07:16
But how do we do that?
124
424609
1572
Por, si ta bëjmë këtë?
Epo, bisedat nuk të çojnë shumë larg.
07:18
Well, talking, on its own, only gets you so far.
125
426181
3972
07:22
It's not enough by itself.
126
430153
1884
Nuk është e mjaftueshme vetëm të flasësh,
nëse ti vërtetë dëshiron të bësh
07:23
If you actually want to make a difference,
127
432037
1425
07:25
you have to do something.
128
433462
2136
07:27
And we've learned there are three key ways:
129
435598
3074
07:30
The first is we have to educate for body confidence.
130
438672
2642
deri aty:
E para është se duhet të edukojmë
per sigurinë apo vetëbesimin ne paraqitje.
Duhet të ndihmojmë adoleshentët tanë
07:33
We have to help our teenagers develop
131
441314
1922
07:35
strategies to overcome image-related pressures
132
443236
3345
të zhvillojnë strategji që ta mposhtin
presionin ndaj paraqitjes së jashtme
07:38
and build their self-esteem.
133
446581
1550
e të rifitojnë vetëbesimin.
07:40
Now, the good news is that there are
134
448131
1986
07:42
many programs out there available
to do this.
135
450117
3953
07:46
The bad news is that most of them don't work.
136
454070
3750
Lajmi i keq është se shumica prej tyre
nuk funksionojnë.
07:49
I was shocked to learn that many well-meaning
137
457820
4707
U shokova kur kuptova që disa programe
me qëllim të mirë, pa dashur e kanë
07:54
programs are inadvertently actually
138
462527
3228
përkeqësuar situatën.
Pra, ne duhet të sigurohemi që këto
07:57
making the situation worse.
139
465755
3395
08:01
So we need to make damn sure that
140
469150
1706
08:02
the programs that our kids are receiving
141
470856
2603
programe që fëmijët tanë po ndjekin,
të kenë ndikim jo vetëm pozitiv,
08:05
are not only having a positive impact,
142
473459
1960
08:07
but having a lasting impact as well.
143
475419
2968
por edhe afatgjatë.
08:10
And the research shows
that the best programs
144
478387
3392
Kërkimet kanë treguar se programet më të
mira adresojnë gjashtë faktorë kryesorë.
08:13
address six key areas:
145
481779
2075
Së pari, ndikimi nga familja, shokët dhe
partneri.
08:15
The first is the influence of family,
friends and relationships.
146
483854
4063
08:19
The second is media and celebrity culture,
147
487917
3464
Së dyti, kultura e medias dhe famës.
Pastaj si t'i menaxhojmë situatat me
08:23
then how to handle teasing and bullying,
148
491381
2052
ngacmime dhe përqeshje.
Mënyra se si ne garojmë dhe krahasojmë
08:25
the way we compete and compare with
one another
149
493433
1992
paraqitjen e jashtme me njëri tjetrin. Meqë
po flasim për dukjen, disa njerëz e quajnë
08:27
based on looks,
150
495425
1537
08:28
talking about appearance — some people
151
496962
1750
08:30
call this "body talk" or "fat talk" —
152
498712
2506
ketë "body talk" ose "fat talk".
Dhe në fund, krijimi i respektit dhe
08:33
and finally, the foundations of respecting
153
501219
2474
përkujdesjes per vetveten.
Këto 6 gjëra janë vendimtare, për të
08:35
and looking after yourself.
154
503693
1774
08:37
These six things are crucial starting points
155
505467
2473
gjithë ata që duan të shpërndajnë edukim
për vetëbesimin mbi trupin.
08:39
for anyone serious about delivering
156
507940
2891
08:42
body-confidence education that works.
157
510831
2937
Edukimi është kritik, ndjekja e këtij
problemi kërkon prej secilit prej nesh që
08:45
An education is critical,
158
513768
2306
08:48
but tackling this problem is going
159
516074
1821
08:49
to require each and everyone of us
160
517895
2770
08:52
to step up and be better role models
161
520665
2590
08:55
for the women and girls in our own lives.
162
523255
2978
08:58
Challenging the status quo of how
163
526233
1933
duke e sfiduar mënyrën sesi gratë shihen
dhe trajtohen në rrethet tona.
09:00
women are seen and talked about in
our own circles.
164
528166
3004
Nuk është në rregull që ne të
09:03
It is not okay that we judge the contribution
165
531170
4042
gjykojmë kontributin e politikaneve tona,
nga stili i tyre i flokëve apo madhësia
09:07
of our politicians by their haircuts
166
535212
3158
09:10
or the size of their breasts,
167
538370
1729
e gjoksit, apo të përcaktojmë suksesin e
një olimpistje nga dukja e saj.
09:12
or to infer that the determination or the success
168
540099
3365
09:15
of an Olympian is down
to her not being a looker.
169
543464
3233
Ne duhet të fillojmë të gjykojmë njerëzit
nga ajo se çfarë bëjnë, e jo nga mënyra
se si duken.
09:18
We need to start judging people by what they do,
170
546697
3106
09:21
not what they look like.
171
549803
2551
09:24
We can all start by taking responsibility
for the types of pictures
172
552354
4364
përgjigjësi për atë se çfarë postojmë apo
komentojmë në rrjetet sociale.
09:28
and comments that we post
173
556718
1643
09:30
on our own social networks.
174
558361
2187
Ne mund t'i përshëndesim njerëzit për
përpjekjet, apo veprimet e tyre,
09:32
We can compliment people based on
their effort
175
560548
4229
dhe jo për paraqitjen e jashtme.
09:36
and their actions
176
564777
1403
09:38
and not on their appearance.
177
566180
2681
09:40
And let me ask you,
178
568861
1514
09:42
when was the last time that you
179
570375
1288
09:43
kissed a mirror?
180
571663
1856
09:45
Ultimately, we need to work together
181
573519
2293
Përfundimisht, ne duhet të punojmë bashkë,
si komunitete, qeveri apo biznese
09:47
as communities, as governments
182
575812
2424
09:50
and as businesses to really change
this culture of ours
183
578236
4465
që ta ndryshojmë këtë kulturë,
në mënyrë që fëmijët tanë të rriten
09:54
so that our kids grow up valuing their
whole selves,
184
582701
4605
duke i dhënë vlerë vetëvetes,
duke vlerësuar
09:59
valuing individuality, diversity, inclusion.
185
587306
4663
personalitetin, diversitetitin,
10:03
We need to put the people that are
making a real difference
186
591969
2796
10:06
on our pedestals, making a difference
187
594765
3408
të bëjnë ndryshime në botën e vërtetë,
duke i dhënë kohën per tu shfaqur,
10:10
in the real world.
188
598173
1980
10:12
Giving them the airtime, because only then
189
600153
2710
sepse vetëm duke e bërë këtë ,ne krijojmë
një botë ndryshe, një botë ku femijet tanë
10:14
will we create a different world.
190
602863
1865
10:16
A world where our kids are free to become
191
604728
3329
10:20
the best versions of themselves,
192
608057
3245
10:23
where the way they think they look
193
611302
1946
duken nuk do ti ndalojë të ecin përpara,
e të bëhen çfarë dëshirojnë,
10:25
never holds them back from being
who they are
194
613248
2641
10:27
or achieving what they want in life.
195
615889
2946
apo të arrijnë atë se çfarë dëshirojnë.
Mendoni se çdo të thotë kjo
10:30
Think about what this might mean
for someone in your life.
196
618835
4218
për dikë ne jeten tuaj. Për kë po
mendoni? Gruan tuaj?
10:35
Who have you got in mind?
197
623053
1498
10:36
Is it your wife?
198
624551
1405
Motrën tuaj? Bijën tuaj? Mbesën tuaj?
Shoqen tuaj?
10:37
Your sister?
199
625956
1388
10:39
Your daughter?
200
627344
1649
10:40
Your niece?
201
628993
1273
10:42
Your friend? It could just be the woman
a couple of seats away
202
630266
3063
10:45
from you today.
203
633329
1295
10:46
What would it mean for her
204
634624
2690
10:49
if she were freed from that voice
205
637314
3758
10:53
of her inner critic, nagging her to have
206
641072
3034
10:56
longer legs, thinner thighs, smaller stomach,
207
644106
2791
10:58
shorter feet?
208
646897
1435
vogël, shputë më të vogël...
Çfarë nëse ne po i ndryejmë potencialin
11:00
What could it mean for her if we overcame this
209
648332
3368
11:03
and unlocked her potential in that way?
210
651700
4513
e saj në këtë mënyrë?
11:08
Right now, our culture's obsession
211
656213
3822
Në këto momente, kultura jonë e
obsesionimit ndaj paraqitjes, po na ndal,
11:11
with image is holding us all back.
212
660035
3355
por le t'u tregojmë fëmijëve tanë
të vërtetën.
11:15
But let's show our kids the truth.
213
663390
2527
11:17
Let's show them that the way you look
214
665917
2015
11:19
is just one part of your identity
215
667932
3715
11:23
and that the truth is we love them
216
671647
2713
11:26
for who they are
217
674360
1571
11:27
and what they do
218
675931
1967
dhe si na bëjnë të ndihemi.
11:29
and how they make us feel.
219
677898
2700
11:32
Let's build self-esteem into our school curriculums.
220
680598
4085
Le ta ngrejmë çështjen e vetëbesimit
në kurrikulumet e shkollave.
11:36
Let's each and every one of us change the way
221
684683
2660
Le të mundohemi që secili prej nesh
të ndryshojmë mënyrën se si flasim
11:39
we talk and compare ourselves to other people.
222
687343
3435
apo e krahasojmë veten me njerëz
të tjerë.
11:42
And let's work together as communities,
223
690778
2730
Dhe të punojmë së bashku si komunitet,
që nga rrënjet deri tek qeveria,
11:45
from grassroots to governments,
224
693508
2794
11:48
so that the happy little one-year-olds
225
696302

of today become the confident

11:53
changemakers of tomorrow.
227
701354
2615
që do ta ndryshojnë të nesërmen.
Le ta bëjmë këtë.
11:55
Let's do this.
