ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Michael Green - Social progress expert
Michael Green is part of the team that has created the Social Progress Index, a standard to rank societies based on how they meet the needs of citizens.

Why you should listen

In his book Philanthrocapitalism (co-authored with Economist business editor Matthew Bishop), Michael Green defined a new model for social change built on partnerships between wealthy businesses, governments and community organizations. Shortly thereafter, Bishop floated the idea of a “Social Competiveness Index,” the idea that one day countries would compete with one another to be the most socially advanced, in the same way as they now compete to be economic top dog. Green loved it and decided to turn it into reality.

Teaming up with Avina's president Brizio Biondi-Morra, Sally Osberg of the Skoll Foundation and many other thought leaders from businesses and foundations, he began work on what would become the Social Progress Imperative, of which he's now CEO. Later they were joined by Harvard management guru Michael E. Porter, who became chairman of the SPI's advisory board. The first Social Progress Index was published in 2014.

So how are we doing on the SDGsOSS?

Non male, ma c'è ancora

Permettetemi anche di sottolineare

05:46

06:32
Well, the first thing to do is
we'venoi abbiamo got to call out the richricco countriespaesi.
124
380480

Per prima cosa dobbiamo interpellare

06:49
Well, you're wrongsbagliato.

The SDGsOSS are for everyogni countrynazione,

Vi porterò in tre aree.
07:17
One where we're doing quiteabbastanza well,

il Brasile e la Russia

07:57
But at the bottomparte inferiore --

Etiopia, Pakistan

08:00
That's where we are in 2018.

Ecco dove siamo nel 2018.
08:02
What's our trajectorytraiettoria?

08:07
Well, let's have a look.
161
475800
1336
Diamo un'occhiata.
08:09
Well, what we see is a lot of progressprogresso.
162
477160

Vediamo un grande progresso.
08:11
See BangladeshBangladesh in the middlein mezzo.
163

Guardate il Bangladesh, nel mezzo.
08:13
If BangladeshBangladesh maintainsmantiene

164
481640

Se il Bangladesh mantiene
il tasso attuale di progresso,
08:16
it could get very closevicino
to that SDGSdg targetbersaglio.
165
484720
3096
potrebbe avvicinarsi molto
a quel target SDG.
08:19
And EthiopiaEtiopia at the bottomparte inferiore

168
492560

08:28
We addInserisci this all up

08:36
And if countriespaesi like the PhilippinesFilippine,

E se paesi come le Filippine,
che sono cresciuti più lentamente,
potessero accelerare il progresso,
08:40

172
508120
1296
08:41
then we could get a lot closerpiù vicino.
173
509440
2336
potremmo avvicinarci molto di più.
08:43
So there are reasonsmotivi to be optimisticottimista
about SDGsOSS 2 and 3.
174
511800
3960
Ci sono buone ragioni per essere ottimisti
sugli SDG 2 e 3.
08:48
But there's anotherun altro very basicdi base areala zona
of the SDGsOSS where we're doing lessDi meno well,
175
516480
4376
Ma c'è un'altra area basilare degli SDG

08:52
whichquale is SDGSdg 6, on wateracqua and sanitationigiene.
176
520880
3000
è l'SDG 6, su acqua e igiene.
08:56
Again, it's an SDGSdg

Di nuovo, è un SDG

09:01
And again, for our biggrande countriespaesi --
179

E di nuovo, per i paesi più popolosi,
09:03
our biggrande 11 emergingemergente countriespaesi,
180

gli 11 paesi emergenti,
09:05
we see that some of the countriespaesi,
like RussiaRussia and MexicoMessico,
181
533160
2736
vediamo che alcuni, come Russia e Messico,
09:07
are very closevicino to the targetbersaglio,
182
535920

sono molto vicini all'obiettivo,
09:10
but NigeriaNigeria and other countriespaesi
are a very long way back.
183
538040
3680
ma la Nigeria e altre nazioni
sono molto indietro.
09:14
So how are we doing on this targetbersaglio?
184
542440
1896
Cosa possiamo dire su questo obiettivo?
09:16
What progressprogresso are we going to make
over the nextIl prossimo 12 yearsanni

09:22
Well, here we go ...
187
550080
1616
Eccoli.
09:23
and yes, there is some progressprogresso.
188
551720
1776
E sì, c'è del progresso.
09:25
Our topsuperiore fourquattro countriespaesi

191

09:33
What we see is that
for the worldmondo as a wholetotale,
192
561880
2256
Vediamo che per il mondo nel suo insieme,
09:36
we're forecastingprevisione a scorePunto

non abbastanza.
09:43
Now, obviouslyovviamente this is not good newsnotizia,
195
571880
1976
Certo, non sono buone notizie,
09:45
but I think what this datadati alsoanche showsSpettacoli
is that we could be doing a lot better.
196
573880

ma penso che questi dati mostrino anche
che potremmo fare molto meglio.
09:50
WaterAcqua and sanitationigiene is a solvedrisolto problemproblema.
197
578160
2576
Acqua e igiene sono un problema risolto.
09:52
It's about scalingscalata
that solutionsoluzione everywhereovunque.
198
580760
2576
Basta ridimensionare
questa soluzione ovunque.
09:55
So if we could accelerateaccelerare progressprogresso

199
583360
2896
Se potessimo accelerare il progresso
in alcuni di quei paesi
09:58

10:01
then we could get
a lot closerpiù vicino to the goalobbiettivo.
202
589560
2080
potremmo avvicinarci molto di più
all'obiettivo.
10:04
IndeedInfatti, I think SDGSdg 6
is probablyprobabilmente the biggestmaggiore opportunityopportunità
203
592480
4416
Penso davvero che l'SDG 6
è forse la migliore opportunità
10:08
of all the SDGsOSS for a steppasso changemodificare.
204
596920
2480
per un cambiamento in tutti gli SDG.
10:13
So that's an areala zona we could do better.
205
601920
1800
Quindi è un'area
dove potremmo fare meglio.
10:16
Let's look finallyfinalmente at an areala zona
where we are strugglinglottando,
206
604800
2816
Guardiamo infine un'area
dove facciamo fatica,
10:19
whichquale is what we call
personalpersonale rightsdiritti and inclusivenessinclusività.
207
607640
3776
quella che chiamiamo
diritti della persona e inclusività.
10:23
This is coveringcopertura conceptsconcetti
acrossattraverso a rangegamma of SDGsOSS.
208
611440
2736
Questa copre diversi concetti
su tutta una gamma di SDG.
10:26
SDGSdg 1 on povertypovertà,
SDGSdg 5 on genderGenere equalityuguaglianza,
209
614200
4336
L'SDG 1 sulla povertà,
l'SDG 5 sull'uguaglianza di genere,
10:30
SDGSdg 10 on inequalitydisuguaglianza,

212
623040

e l'SDG 16 su pace e giustizia.
10:38
So acrossattraverso those SDGsOSS there are themestemi
around rightsdiritti and inclusivenessinclusività,
213
626720
3816
In questi SDG si parla
di diritti e inclusività,
10:42

10:47
but rightsdiritti and inclusioninclusione are criticalcritico

216
635200

10:53
So how are we doing on those issuesproblemi?
217
641240

E come sta andando in quest'area?
10:55
Let's startinizio off with personalpersonale rightsdiritti.

219
645560
4256
Per prima cosa voglio mostrarvi

11:01
So here they are,
220
649840
1216
Eccoli qui,
11:03
and I've put the USASTATI UNITI D'AMERICA and JapanGiappone back in,

so it's our 13 biggestmaggiore

quindi sono i 13 paesi

11:07
And we see a widelargo rangegamma of scorespunteggi.

11:18
Let's have a look.

11:39
