00:15
So what I want to try to do is tell a quick story
0
686
2998
Vou tentar contar uma breve história
00:18
about a 404 page and a lesson that was learned as a result of it.
1
3684
3710
00:22
But to start it probably helps to have an understanding
2
7394
2719
Mas antes de contá-la, é bom compreender
00:25
of what a 404 page actually is.
3
10113
3512
o que é uma página 404.
00:28
The 404 page is that.
4
13625
3106
A página 404 é isso.
00:31
It's that broken experience on the Web.
5
16731
2340
Uma experiência de ruptura na Web.
00:34
It's effectively the default page
6
19071
2311
É a página padrão que se vê
00:36
when you ask a website for something and it can't find it.
7
21382
3576
00:39
And it serves you the 404 page.
8
24958
2300
E aí lhe apresenta a página 404.
00:42
It's inherently a feeling of being broken when you go through it.
9
27258
4825
00:47
And I just want you to think a little bit about, remember for yourself,
10
32083
2625
00:49
it's annoying when you hit this thing.
11
34708
3042
é irritante quando nos deparamos com ela.
00:52
Because it's the feeling of a broken relationship.
12
37750
2258
00:55
And that's where it's actually also interesting to think about,
13
40008
2742
E aí é interessante refletir,
00:57
where does 404 come from?
14
42750
1875
de onde vem a página 404?
00:59
It's from a family of errors actually --
15
44625
2044
01:01
a whole set of relationship errors,
16
46669
2110
um conjunto de erros relacionados,
01:03
which, when I started digging into them,
17
48779
2304
que, quando comecei a estudá-los melhor,
01:06
it looks almost like a checklist for a sex therapist or a couples couselor.
18
51083
4834
01:10
You sort of get down there to the bottom and things get really dicey.
19
55917
3125
Você meio que chega lá embaixo e as coisas ficam bem complicadas.
01:14
(Laughter)
20
59042
2889
(Risos)
01:16
Yes.
21
61931
2027
É.
01:18
But these things are everywhere.
22
63958
2244
Mas essas coisas estão por toda parte.
01:21
They're on sites big, they're on sites small.
23
66202
2696
Elas estão nos grandes e pequenos 'sites'.
01:23
This is a global experience.
24
68898
2685
É uma experiência universal.
01:26
What a 404 page tells you
25
71583
2877
Uma página 404 lhe diz
01:29
is that you fell through the cracks.
26
74460
4157
que você caiu entre as fendas.
01:33
And that's not a good experience
27
78617
1758
E não é uma boa experiência
01:35
when you're used to experiences like this.
28
80375
2444
01:37
You can get on your Kinect
29
82819
1273
Você pode pegar seu Kinect
01:39
and you can have unicorns dancing
30
84092
2158
e obter unicórnios dançando
01:41
and rainbows spraying out of your mobile phone.
31
86250
2637
e arco-íris surgindo em seu telefone móvel.
01:43
A 404 page is not what you're looking for.
32
88887
2090
Você não espera uma página 404.
01:45
You get that, and it's like a slap in the face.
33
90977
3452
01:49
Trying to think about how a 404 felt,
34
94429
2233
Tentar pensar na sensação da 404,
01:51
and it would be like if you went to Starbucks
35
96662
1880
01:53
and there's the guy behind the counter
36
98542
1750
tivesse um cara atrás do balcão,
01:55
and you're over there and there's no skim milk.
37
100292
1812
01:57
And you say, "Hey, could you bring the skim milk?"
38
102104
1979
Então você diz: “Ei, poderia me trazer o leite desnatado?”
01:59
And they walk out from behind the counter and they've got no pants on.
39
104083
2165
02:01
And you're like, "Oh, I didn't want to see that."
40
106248
2942
02:04
That's the 404 feeling.
41
109190
2089
Essa é a sensação da 404.
02:06
(Laughter)
42
111294
1658
(Risos)
02:07
I mean, I've heard about that.
43
112952
2256
Quero dizer, essa eu ouvi.
02:10
So where this comes into play and why this is important
44
115208
4138
02:14
is I head up a technology incubator,
45
119346
1331
eu chefiei uma incubadora de tecnologia
02:15
and we had eight startups sitting around there.
46
120677
2000
e tivemos 8 empresas novas por lá .
02:17
And those startups are focused on what they are, not what they're not,
47
122677
3036
02:20
until one day Athletepath,
48
125713
1796
até que um dia o Athletepath,
02:22
which is a website that focuses on services for extreme athletes,
49
127509
3678
02:26
found this video.
50
131187
1438
achou este vídeo.
02:27
(Video) Guy: Joey!
51
132625
3565
(Vídeo) Cara: Joey!
02:31
Crowd: Whoa!
52
136190
4804
Multidão: Uau!
02:35
Renny Gleeson: You just ... no, he's not okay.
53
140994
3381
02:39
They took that video and they embedded it in their 404 page
54
144375
4043
02:43
and it was like a light bulb went off for everybody in the place.
55
148418
2832
e todos acharam uma grande ideia.
02:46
Because finally there was a page
56
151250
2708
Porque finalmente havia uma página
02:48
that actually felt like what it felt like to hit a 404.
57
153958
3201
02:52
(Laughter)
58
157159
1526
(Risos)
02:53
(Applause)
59
158685
1781
(Aplausos)
02:55
So this turned into a contest.
60
160466
2367
Então isso se tornou uma competição.
02:57
Dailypath that offers inspiration
61
162833
2250
“Dailypath” que oferece inspiração,
03:00
put inspiration on their 404 page.
62
165083
2496
colocou inspiração em sua página 404.
03:02
Stayhound, which helps you find pet sitters through your social network,
63
167579
3916
“Stayhound”, que o ajuda a encontrar babás de animais na rede social,
03:06
commiserated with your pet.
64
171495
1820
solidariza-se com seu animal.
03:08
Each one of them found this.
65
173315
1393
Cada um deles encontrou isso.
03:09
It turned into a 24-hour contest.
66
174708
1250
Tornou-se uma competição de 24 horas.
03:10
At 4:04 the next day, we gave out $404 in cash.
67
175958
3125
Às 4:04, do dia seguinte, nós entregamos 404 dólares.
03:14
And what they learned
68
179083
1417
E aprendemos que
03:15
was that those little things, done right, actually matter,
69
180500
2384
essas pequenas coisas, feitas corretamente, importam muito,
03:17
and that well-designed moments can build brands.
70
182884
2646
03:20
So you take a look out in the real world,
71
185530
1928
Então deem uma olhada no mundo real,
03:22
and the fun thing is you can actually hack these yourself.
72
187458
2442
03:24
You can type in an URL and put in a 404 and these will pop.
73
189900
2931
03:27
This is one that commiserates with you.
74
192831
1998
Essa aqui se solidariza com vocês
03:29
This is one that blames you.
75
194829
1750
Essa o culpa.
03:31
This is one that I loved.
76
196579
1838
Eu adoro essa.
03:33
This is an error page,
77
198417
2333
Essa é uma página de erro,
03:35
but what if this error page was also an opportunity?
78
200750
4046
03:39
So it was a moment in time
79
204796
2166
Esse foi um momento
03:41
where all of these startups had to sit and think
80
206962
2271
03:44
and got really excited about what they could be.
81
209233
2322
03:46
Because back to the whole relationship issue,
82
211555
2597
Porque voltando a essa questão da relação,
03:49
what they figured out through this exercise
83
214152
2257
o que elas entenderam desse exercício
03:51
was that a simple mistake can tell me what you're not,
84
216409
2837
03:54
or it can remind me of why I should love you.
85
219246
3319
ou ele pode me lembrar porque eu devo amar você.
03:57
Thank you.
86
222565
1758
Obrigado.
03:59
(Applause)
