ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Adam Savage - Maker, critical thinker
Adam Savage is an internationally renowned television producer, host and public speaker.

Why you should listen

Adam Savage's mother is a psychologist; his father was a celebrated artist, painter and filmmaker. From the youngest age they encouraged his flights of fancy. Savage has been a paperboy, a projectionist, juggler, unicycle rider, sculptor, graphic designer, scenic painter, robot builder, welder, carpenter, machinist, prop maker, toy designer, actor, writer, executive producer and director. He spent six years in theater and 10 years in commercial and film special effects working for clients such as Nike, Corning, Hershey's, and Coca-Cola, and films like Star Wars, The Matrix films, A.I., Space Cowboys, Terminator 3 and Galaxy Quest.

Savage has built everything from theater sets to miniature particle accelerators. From spaceships to animatronic arms. He's made Rube Goldberg machines, hand props and spacesuits. His online videos have generated over 230 million page views. He's written for Popular Mechanics, the Wall Street Journal and Wired Magazine, among others. His program "Mythbusters" produced 270 episodes that aired in over 100 countries for 14 years. Adam shares his builds, his love for movie props and costumes, and passion for the transformative power of making on his award winning website Tested.com. He lives in San Francisco with his wife Julia, his twin boys Thing1 and Thing2, and two amazing dogs.

05:47
And this actuallyde fapt representedreprezentat kinddrăguț of a seamare changeSchimbare to me.
134
331000
3000
05:50
Again, like I said, my life has been about
135
334000
2000
După cum spuneam, viaţa mea a însemnat
05:52
beingfiind fascinatedfascinat by objectsobiecte and the storiespovestiri that they tell,
136
336000
2000
05:54
and alsode asemenea makingluare them for myselfeu insumi, obtainingobţinerea them,
137

de a le aprecia şi de a mî cufunda în ele.
06:00
And in this folderpliant, "CreativeCreative ProjectsProiecte,"
139
344000
2000
Şi în acest dosar, "Proiecte Creative",
06:02
there are tonstone of projectsproiecte that I'm currentlyîn prezent workinglucru on,
140
346000
3000
06:05
projectsproiecte that I've alreadydeja workeda lucrat on, things that I mightar putea want to work on some day,
141
349000
3000
06:08
and things that I mayMai just want to find and buya cumpara and have
142
352000
3000
06:11
and look at and touchatingere.
143
355000
2000
06:13
But now there was potentiallypotenţial this newnou categorycategorie of things
144
357000
3000
06:16
that I could sculptsculpta
145
360000
2000
pe care le-aş putea sculpta
06:18
that was differentdiferit, that I -- you know,
146
362000

06:20
I have my ownpropriu R2D2, but that's --
147
364000

am propriul meu R2D2, dar asta e --
06:22
honestlysincer, relativerelativ to sculptingsculptand, to me, that's easyuşor.
148
366000
3000
06:25
And so I wenta mers back and lookedprivit throughprin my "CreativeCreative ProjectsProiecte" folderpliant,
149
369000
3000
Aşa că am revenit la dosarul "Proiecte Creative"
06:28
and I happeneds-a întâmplat acrosspeste the MalteseMalteză FalconFlorin.
150
372000
3000
şi am dat peste Şoimul Maltez.
06:32
Now, this is funnyamuzant for me:
151
376000
3000
06:35
to fallcădea in love with an objectobiect from a HammettHammett novelroman,
152
379000
3000
06:38
because if it's trueAdevărat that the worldlume is dividedîmpărțit into two typestipuri of people,

06:43
But in this casecaz,
155
387000
2000
Dar în acest caz, nu contează --
06:45
it's not about the authorautor, it's not about the bookcarte or the moviefilm or the storypoveste,
156
389000
4000
06:49
it's about the objectobiect in and of itselfîn sine.
157
393000
2000
important e obiectul în sine.
06:51
And in this casecaz, this objectobiect is --

Şi în acest caz, acest obiect e --
06:54

159
398000

are mai multe aspecte.
06:57
First of all, there's the objectobiect in the worldlume.
160

În primul rând, e obiectul real.
06:59
This is the "KniphausenKniphausen HawkHawk."

165

07:12
Then there is the fictionalfictiv birdpasăre, the one that HammettHammett createdcreată for the bookcarte.

And then there is this fourthAl patrulea levelnivel, whichcare is

Apoi e al patrulea nivel, care e

07:42
And so now it was time to do some researchcercetare.

09:14
So what I did was, again, like I did with the dodododo skullcraniu,

09:16
